Final Fantasy XIII looks like a great game to me. Except for the fact that a guy is almost marry a woman that looks exactly like a child or teen.

 

FF13 got such good reviews, but many hate from fans.... I don't know why. Lightning looks cool. I got to know her better on Dissidia. I also like her weapon a lot. It's very original.

 

Gameplay looks good, even though I hate this type of RPG battle system. Lightnign Returns gameplay looks a bit of KH to me... but I only've seen the first trailer. Why is the world gonna end in 13 days?! Square is obessed with the number 13, really... and X's too. And depressing endings/moments... light vs. dark...

Should I play FF13? I hated FF12, but almsot everyone does, so... Should a person as myself, who disliked a lot the battle system, try to play this game? Is it hard?

In all seriousness, give it a shot. I thought it was decent, and XIII-2 is definitely better than the first. 

Fans dislike because:

• It's linear
• You can't control other party members in combat
• No side quests
• Slow start
• Repetitive boring battle encounters.  Attack/stagger/attack/stagger/attack/stagger rinse and repeat
• Unrealistic expectations of the game
• Bad pacing
• And the biggest and most common reason of all.  It isn't Final Fantasy VII or X.

Too many people judge games with the nostalgia goggles they had for games they played when they were a child and not dead inside.

 

I personally don't mind it.  FF isn't a series I follow religiously, but I enjoy playing FFXIII but I wouldn't go hours and hours playing it.  

 

EDIT: Also, something that personally bored me that I do have a problem with (I don't mind long games like or the characters).  Button mashing.  For a strategy game you can pretty much get through a bulk of the battles by just hitting X over and over, of > Triangle.  
I remember mindlessly staring elsewhere while just pushing X and completing the battles.

I am one of the few fans that love the XIII series, I reccemond it but I will say this. XIII in terms of gameplay is very linear where as the story is great. XIII-2 still follows on a good story, but you might be confused and such with the time paradox and such, but the gameplay was vastly improved in XIII-2. And now here I am waiting for Lightnting Returns. ^_^

I never played an FF game before 13 so I came in completely clean and I just thought it was okay.

I liked the visuals and the battle system was fine.

Hated the story and hated all the characters, the only one I sorta liked was Saszh. 

There are some cool moments like using summons etc. But overall I got bored by the time I got to chapter 11. The horribly written story and characters didn't do it for me. But I did enjoy the fast pace action of the battles at time and using summons, so give it a shot.

If you got ps3, get it. If you got Xbox 360, well save up for ps3, or play the game in worse quality.

Either way, you should play. The gameplay may be linear in the first, and the second scrambles everywhere, but the story is worth it. Try to get FF13 and finish its games before Lightning Returns comes out in February.

FF XIII is a good game

A drop dead gorgeous, pink-haired cutie badass who will cut you up like no other, a man who b***h slaps anyone/thing that gets in his way and is in a relationship with another pink haired cutie, a black pilot who has a baby chocobo nesting in his freaking afro, two other girls who's relationship is very questionable, and others... What's not to like about FF13?

 

Admittedly, I do hate it because of its pipeline 'CoD' like gameplay, unlike the previous titles where it was an open world with bunch of sidequests. But yeah, if you want FF13, then by all means, go for it.

I actually suggest that you play Final Fantasy XIII and XIII-2 before the release of Lightning Returns.Don't compare the gameplay of FFXII with FFXIII  because the gameplay is totally different. The reason why fans hate this game is because of:- Not as they were expecting for PS3 (WT* so what? the game is still cool)- It is only straight line for the story (Agree with that)

- Summons are inside the story and not optional or hunted like old games (Agree)- The characters gathering plot is not convincing (O.O)- No side missions (True, I know that there are over 65 side missions in FFXIII but they are all just killing so I would agree with this)Sadly the fans just compare this game with the ones before and judge and they still want everything to be like old games, they can't be convinced that games change by years but oh well. I am a big fan but I like all of them with their nature.
