The KH series should have a simpler story after the Xehanort saga

Posted

I love this series to death believe me,but let's face it

with each game the series became as convoluted as the Metal Gear series if not more to the point that, while not hard for me to explain the story to myself,it's really hard to explain it to a newcomer who'll have hundreds of questions popping in his head the moment you tell him who Xehanort is

What I mean by simpler is,something along the lines of the first two KH games especially the first game, the story of KH1 didn't need that much complexity to be fun and epic at the same time,KH2 was more complex than the first game but I still found it easy to understand.

It's in the handheld games like Birth by Sleep,3582 days and DDD that newcomers will find themselves in absolute confusion, heck even veterans in the series might find the whole story of the series to be a mess the moment he starts getting headache just to solve one plot point, only to find that there are a bajillion more plot points to solve

Again, don't get me wrong I personally like complex stories in video games but there has to be a limit you have to reach before you draw the line.

Once the Xehanort saga is done and Xehanort no longer exist,I want Nomura and Square to simplify a story, make one consistent villain that doesn't divide himself into 13 figures that include his heartless and nobody and his other clones

And most importantly,Focus more on the main character himself rather than splitting the focus all over the place

Because if there is one thing that pissed me off about the KH series,is the overglorifying of BBS trio's roles in the story and how Nomura made them more important than they actually are

I know some of you may not agree, but remember that the charm of the first game in the series was that it's so simple to pick up and play by anyone as it emphasized the fact of it being a DisneySquare crossover more than any other game in the series aside from KH2.

You can only complicate a story so much before people draw the line and look for something else

Heck the Zelda Timeline is much easier to solve than this

And before you say anything,I know some other franchises that suffers the same problem and that includes the Metal Gear series

I'd say KH has become far more complicated than MGS is, Partly because it's less grounded in reality.

I think that the plot in the Kingdom Hearts series is intriguing and exhilarating.  I love a plot that keeps me guessing!  I mean think about it, if there were no games after Kingdom Hearts 2, it would have been worse torture for us to wait for Kingdom Hearts 3 without extra content to chew on.  I believe that all the plot twists and turns were well executed, and I loved the fact at how Xehanort linked this all together, and how he had made such a calculated and devilish plan just to get the X-Blade!  And I just love how all the games made references to other characters in the series and filled in tiny details that we may have missed.  I know that I'm defending this series too much, but I just personally love it with all my heart!  And I really hope that Nomura keeps going with his imagination, inventing excellent scenarios and plot twists for the next saga!  Long live Kingdom Hearts!  Oh, but if there's one thing I actually have a problem with in the whole series, it's Julius.  After all the amazing and epicly designed secret bosses in the other games, Julius was such a downer for me.  But that's the only complaint you'll get from me on the Kingdom Hearts series! :P

"He used to give me that exact same look"

Could have possibly meant Roxas.

"You three don't look half the heroes the others were"

Could have meant the people from the Keyblade Wars that he could have learned about as a child.

A bit more mystery my dear, watson

I refer to them as Side games as they are not part of the 'main line' of games (KH1,KH2,KH3) Not everyone is going to have the consoles/handhelds these are on (Mainly BBS on the PSP) But they have compensated with that for the remixes. Although I love BBS and DDD to an extent. They did not need to be created. BBS didn't need to be there, I respect that it is because I love the new trio and Xehanort but it didn't really need to be there in terms of plot.

DDD is a step forward. Everyone was complaining when they kept making the "side games" but DDD is forward in time. How can it be unnecessary?

I honestly don't find the story that convoluted. I find it irritating when people say it is.

Birth by Sleep and 358/2 Days are NOT side-games. Birth by Sleep is as important to the plot as KH, CoM, KHII, and 3D. It urks me when people call them side-games. Nomura himself refers to them as such. They are very important to the overall plot of the series.

The trio from Birth by Sleep have been alluded to since KHII. You say the overall canon of KHII makes sense on its own, but what about Xigbar's comments about, "He used to give me that exact same look," and, "You three don't look half the heroes the others were"? How would you go about explaining that if Birth by Sleep didn't exist? Keep in mind also, KHII came out several years before Birth by Sleep, so for Nomura to already have them in mind means that they are important.

To me and you....maybe not that complicated

To a newcomer especially.....it's a nightmare to follow

The story went off rail and became so complicated that it even rivals Metal Gear's convoluted story....a.k.a I might need a degree in science just to understand WTH Xehanort is supposed to even be at this point

In fact,'s it's over complexity is the reason why KH3 was delayed so much and we got so many KH games on handheld

They could've at least took the Metal Gear Solid 4 route where they show us the end of the xehanort saga.....THEN explain the things inbetween just like how MGS Portable Ops and Peace Walker explains the origins of Big Boss and the Patriots

Don't get me wrong I love this story, but even I would fine a hard time connecting all the dots sometimes unless I play nothing but Kingdom Hearts for months while trying to connect everything

I'd say KH has become far more complicated than MGS is, Partly because it's less grounded in reality.

It's just as complicated.....sure MGS is realistic but there are things in the series that defies reality.....like The Sorrow from MGS3

The fact that I need science just to understand the basics of MGS series plot gotta say something

No,only Birth by Sleep didn't need to be made....

DDD on the other hand is a sequel to KH2......finally a progression in events after 6 years of complete halt

The fact that I finally get to see what happened after KH2 makes it my third favorite KH game

Complexity itself isn't a problem. Intricate stories are often good, but I do feel that KH has gotten convoluted into a tangled mess.Though really the KH story is pretty simple in my opinion, it is just a mess.A mess that gives new meaning to the line, "A scattered dream like a far off memory, a far off memory like a scattered dream. I want to line the pieces up, yours and mine."All of it's complexity comes from this the pieces of the story are scattered across the games, while the puzzle maybe simple, the pieces are still scattered. (and maybe bent out of shape too)Edited to match what I was trying to say.

the only real convolution problem is dream drop distance, take that away and i can explain the story of the games fine to anyone.

I know they are important and you don't have to explain to me why because I played every single game in the series.

What I meant is,they're too important for their own good to the point the fanbase assume they're the ones that will take out Xehanort instead of Sora and Riku

Just look at the forums of KHInsider and how everybody wants Terra to defeat Xehanort

OMG will you understand me??

I never said it should be a Sora-only story

I just said more emphasis instead of making TerraAquaVen seem more important than Sora

Look. All of the side games including kh2 all ended with SORA. they all pointed to Sora with big flashy arrows saying "THIS GUY IS GOING TO SAVE US ALL. HE'S THE MOST IMPORTANT ONE!!!" So if you assume that everyone thinks that Terra's going to be the one to defeat xehanort or ven or aqua, then you're wrong. Because all of the games pretty much pointed out that Sora was the most important character in the entire series. They all say in big caps that he's going to save everyone. And no one is going to defeat Xehanort without Sora. Because he's the one to save everyone and lead the army to the enemy.

I don't see why anyone could possibly say that Kairi or Aqua or Ven or even Terra would KO Xehanort singlehandedly. And not to mention that most games you play as Sora. So it's only obvious that you'll kill Xehanort as Sora or Sora teamed up with other people.

There was Re:Coded...but that barely added anything either. And the reason there wasn't any progression to start with after kh2 was because of FINAL FANTASY XV. SO STOP BLAMING THE SIDE GAMES.
