How so?

Yet when I give reasoning, I still get lumped in with the people who don't. Of course.

Ok, go ahead. I only ask you don't compare it to FFVI, people do it soo much it gets on my nerves.

I don't. Last time I pointed out all the flaws I've noticed with FFVII, everyone got mad at me and claimed it was just because it's popular or some crap like that.

These days I find FFVII can be generally underrated. I think the most annoying thing about it is that most people who bag VII is because of its graphics. That always gets a facepalm.

I'll only tell you it's overrated if you give me the half-assed "It was a groundbreaking title during its time" excuse. Just like OoT, neither have the ability to survive off of that one little thing. If I were to be completely honest though, you're a true fan if you accept that it's overrated. KH is overrated, but that doesn't stop me from loving it.

I made a thread a while back stating that FFVII was overrated, and looking back, maybe that was a mistake. Everyone has their own opinions, and thus it's unfair to state whether a game is overrated or underrated, solely based on your opinion on the game. That said, I've played FFIIV, and just don't understand why people love it so much. However, I do agree that it isn't fair of me to just say that without giving any reasons, so I'll give them. Keep in mind that the only major Final Fantasy games I've played are VII and IX.

1. The graphics. Now, I know that many of you will be mad at me for stating this as a reason, but I've seen plenty of games that have significantly better graphics on the PS1, including FFVIII and FFIX. I love plenty of games with lackluster graphics, but the out-of-battle character models in FFVII are ridiculous. They're little more than a bunch of colored polygons slapped together. I just can't excuse them.

2. The inappropriate content. One of the issues Square had against working with Nintendo is that they censored their games in order to make them more family friendly. Thus, when they made their first Final Fantasy game on a Sony console, they went way overboard on the swearing, suggestive themes, and violence. Seriously, the game didn't need all of that to be great. If you ask me, it just made the game worse. Of course, I seem to be one of the few gamers over the age of twelve that care about those sort of things, which is why Square got away with it.

3. Getting around. In FFVII, I had the hardest time finding things because everything seemed to blend into each other, making it hard for things to stand out oftentimes. This included items, chests, and occasionally even entrances to other places. I get that the developers wanted a bleaker atmosphere for the game, but at least in FFIX, you had a question mark or explanation mark appear over your head whenever there was something to interact with, and the entrances to other areas were easier to find. Seriously, if I have to constantly press the A button on every object and wall that I find just to discover things needed to progress through the game over and over again, something's wrong.

Those are my three main problems with the game, although I also have several other little issues with the game, such as some annoyances with the combat system and the main villain (I don't really like Sepheroth, even though "One Winged Angel" is a great boss theme). Don't get me wrong, there's some great things about the game too, such as much of the story and several of the music tracks. However, I'm still not really a fan of the game.

Final fantasy 7 is overrated. I mean come on it had 2 spin off games with only one of them being any good and a movie and then another movie with added cutscenes. So yeah it is overrated in every way. I hope they never remake FF7 it's a terrible idea.

See people, these are good criticisms.

I'm totally with you on this,I can understand that people don't consider FFVII to be the best FF,they can have their own opinions, but they should have valid arguments

So,Final Fantasy VII is overrated because of its......spin offs? With that logic every games are overrated.

"Overrated"--and for that matter, "underrated"--are both meaningless terms to me.  Their usage boils down to people thinking they're in a position to judge what should be popular and what shoudn't be.  I don't think anyone has that right, because no one can predict what will catch on.  You're allowed to cite why you (dis)like something if you don't sound like an idiot doing so, but when you use that line of reasoning to say why it is/isn't allowed to have the recognition it has because you like/dislike it, that's when it becomes arrogant.

FFVII happens to be one of my favorite games, but when you compare it to modern games, many parts of it haven't aged well, one of them being the graphics as others have stated.  I think the amount of criticisms leveled at it these days is because the more people who know of it, the more people will play it, and statistically, the greater number people who will express an opinion of not liking it.  After all, there are plenty of games I've played that are popular and I'm sure are good, but couldn't get into for one reason or another.  There's also how I think it's "safer" to criticize it because it was probably a sin to say anything negative about it back in its day.  It's over a decade old now--by game standards, it's a classic and a relic.  Of course, the veterans (and even some newbies) will still defend it, but FFVII is fair game now.

(It's also a pet peeve of mine to compare VII and VI simply because it's so damn rare to find anyone who enjoys both, as if liking VI or VII are mutually exclusive.)

Final fantasy 7 needs to die! Same with Finak fantasy 13! And yes just the simple truth. We need more Final fantasy 8 and 9

But if 8 and 9 were to have sequels, would you not consider them overrated too?

See people, these are good criticisms.

And when I give the same ones, they're bad criticisms.

I don't care about it was  overrated and now overhated, I  just hate it because these things:

1.Story- Sephiroth which is considered the main villian and calls Cloud a pupet, is actally a pupet of Jenova, and the whole plan was Jenova's.

also, Jenova was  apprearing as sephrioth untill he dicscovered that he have jenova cells, even tho he was cool in other games, he was a bad villian in VII.

Cloud was annoying, and it gets worse.

2.Gameplay-The battle system was too much casual for me, the fact that FFVII was the most annoying game at getting  chests, items, etc, and  even continuing in the story, becuase of it was the first FF in 3D, and failed with the 3D.

3.Not that much, but funbase- many times when I see that people don't like the game, some fans just curse them and get mad.

HOW DARE THEY HAVE AN OPINION?!

HA! looks like 15 actually turned out to be shit, as well as your Sasuke clone NUTKISS. Too bad FF7 IS getting a remake and it'll overshadow 15 and leave 15 to die with it's shitty characters. Emo Noctis, trash cook, whiny bitch, steroid stereotype.

I played FFVII myself about two years ago on my PS3, and I absolutely loved it! I can see why people praise it so much and why it's such a beloved entry in the franchise, but it's not my favorite Final Fantasy. Don't get me wrong, the story, characters, music and gameplay are amazing, but for me, it's just a really amazing entry.

For me, the best one is Final Fantasy IV! The first game in the franchise to go neck deep into storytelling and really give an awesome heck of a good ride!
