Why does the DK fanbase hate Donkey Kong 64?

Most of the DK fanbase hate this game just because it had too much stuff to collect and the fact that it doesn't resemble the DKC trilogy on the SNES....I don't get that.

DK64 is a really solid fantastic game, actually it's my favorite Donkey Kong game.

It's not that hard to collect the Golden Bananas or the other collectibles if you've already played the likes of Banjo Kazooie and Banjo Tooie and even Super Mario 64.

All of those are collect-A-thon games so why is DK64 is getting that hate when the game is just as good as the Banjo series and Super Mario 64 ?

This game was awesome, it was the longest game for the N64 or probably the longest 3d platformer of all time.  And it had THE MONKEY RAP! <------- (probably why some people hated the game)

Sure that monkey rap was so cheesy, but that's why I liked that rap.And you can skip it anyway so I don't know why people hated the game

Btw I managed to collect EVERYTHING in that game....it's the first game I ever 100%ed in my life

I got all the colored bananas, golden bananas, blue prints, banana fairies, the nintendo coin, the Rare coin, all the abilities for each kong, all the upgrades for the weapons and instruments....etc

When there's a ton of shit to collect, people get disheartened cause they want to ace it, but honestly spending 100+ hours just to collect a bunch of whatever, feels like a waste to some people.

You only need 100 golden banana to finish the game

It doesn't take that long really, maybe 15 to 20 hours to finish the main quest

and if you want to collect everything then it might take 50 to 70 hours

Because Cranky Kong was a NPC

I haven't actually played any DK games, I just know that while having an excessive amount of stuff increased the play time of a game (and companies want to keep you playing for as long as possible) can make the game look like a chore rather than a means of entertainment

I don't know where you got this idea that most DK fans hate that game. All the DK fans I know think it's the best one ever made. I think so too. The worst mistake Nintendo ever made was not buying RARE. So much talent lost that is now making bad Kinect sports games for Xbox. Rare still owns the game rights to DK 64 as well, so Nintendo can never remake it, even though they own the characters and everything.

Dude, just go to youtube and see how many LPers in the DK fandom that hates this game.

Anyway,no Rare no longer owns the rights to DK64 or any of the DKC games for that matter as the DKC games are available on the Virtual console, sure they designed the Kremlings and the 3 extra kongs in DK64 but Nintendo got those back later on for the DK Barrel Blast racing game.

The only reason that may prevent Nintendo from releasing DK64 on virtual console is either the Rare logo that is scattered everywhere in the game(which includes the Rare coin you need to unlock the final key) or the fact that the game wasn't as well received as the DKC trilogy

I personally love the game but it is honestly too big for its own good

too much collecting

Donkey Kong 64 is the only Donkey Kong I like. Every DKC gets boring quick...

I really like DK64 it was a great game,I wouldn't say its as good as Super Mario 64,but its pretty close
