It happened slowly, but it's happened. Cloud has been replaced as the face of the franchise. The Compilation of FINAL FANTASY VII was supposed to continue past Advent Children Complete, but it didn't. Why? Lightning became the face of the franchise. Lightning was the main character in FINAL FANTASY XIII, and while she wasn't in XIII-2, her sister was and the game only happened because of Lightning. And then in LIGHTNING RETURNS, for the first time ever only one character was playable. This was of course Lightning. And what else has been going on for Lightning? She's in FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn both to fight alongside you but also provide quests to unlock her gear. And what's the chance she's in FINAL FANTASY XV? I'd say quite high considering Square Enix confirmed she could appear in a future FINAL FANTASY game, and the new world in LIGHTNING RETURNS looks a lot like FINAL FANTASY XV's.

Lightning wasn't even in XIII-2 as a playable character,it was Serah and Noel,Lightning was playable only in that dumb DLC

I've played XIII-2 for over 90 hours,and that beginning doesn't count because it was heavily scripted, and that DLC was stupid

I'll compare this to a sports team. A player could be the greatest ever, or be the most successful ever but when they're done playing eventually someone else becomes the face of the franchise. Being the face of the franchise doesn't even necessarily mean you're the best currently either.

She's in XIV and there's a good chance she'll be in XV. Then she'll be done, Noctis will probably take over at that point.

Yeah, Lightning's playable in Valhalla without DLC.

Even if you don't like Lightning, you have to admit that she's pretty much the face of Final Fantasy right now. What has Cloud done recently?

In a recent interview they said XV will have absolutely nothing to do with the XIII trilogy and will absolutely not be set in the same universe. They only thing they will share is their Mytho's.

There is no such thing as the face of the franchise and if there is then I associate Moogles and Chocobos with the franchise, you know why? Because they more often then not in anything Final Fantasy and when people see them they'll say, "oh yeah FF!" (inb4 they are mascots not faces wah wah).

 

I'll admit that Cloud was some sort of poster boy for Square Enix down the years but that's only due to how popular FF7 was at the time and how many loved the game.

Lightning however, is not a poster girl that people wanted and she has been forced down our throats and we are supposed to deal with it.

You guys do realize how ridiculous this argument is becoming, right? Seriously, does this really matter this much?

 

By the way, I'm pretty sure that the face of a franchise is the character most associated to it. It's not about who's in more games, or who the fan base loves more, or any of that. It's about which is the character is thought of by the most people when they hear the words Final Fantasy. Just throwing that out there.
