The only thing that's ever gotten time travel right.

The Zelda series has more Time paradoxs than I thought.where in the hell did that Goron vase come from if Link was the one to give it to them in the past and they give it to him in the present only for him to give it them in the past. my heads starting to hurt ><

I honestly look at each Zelda game as their own games without the timeline...I only apply the timeline when I wanna have fun searching the mythos

Time travel's a really sketchy plot device, and has a really bad reputation. This game is literally the ONLY form of media I've ever seen that did time travel well. It was simple, yet good. No weird rules or anything. Time travel had its own repercussions (Certain actions would affect your ending, for example), and it actually took you to interesting places, not "Oh hey, here's a post apocalyptic version of your world. That's all you get." (Yes, I know there was a post apocalyptic time, but there was more variety than just that). People should look to this if they want to know how to do time travel properly.

Man,back when Square actually knew how to write a great story ^_^

I'm really hoping that we get a third Chrono game soon. Didn't Square say they were doing something special for the 20th anniversary?

this has nothing to do with timeline. rather then me explaining it just watch Jwittz Zelda video if u haven't already.but having a timeline is kinda nice. and the whole child and adult paths people kinda of already figured out a long time ago.the dead link one was just that theres no way to make sense of them in 0other timelines

I've already watched Jwittz's video as I've been a fan of his work for two years.

It's just how I look at it.I only link the games when I want to connect them, but when I play them I judge each of them individually

Probably an iOS game like what they did for the Romancing SaGa anniversary

I swear, if Square makes some dinky smartphone game to cash in on the Chrono fanbase's dedication, I'm going to be pissed off beyond belief. They still haven't screwed up Chrono yet (I'm one of the few who actually liked Cross. Just because it's not just like Trigger doesn't mean it's a bad game), and I'd like them to keep it that way.

How does one get a fictional plot device 'right'? Time travel, by it's very nature, can cause inconsistencies just by EXISTING. It comes with the territory.

Chrono Cross was good ^_^

Chrono Cross was good ^_^

It bugs me when people complain about it just because the story wasn't a direct continuation of Trigger. That alone isn't enough to make it be considered a bad game. :/ I really like it, it's my favorite PS1 game, I just can't finish it because my PSP is broken, and I got it through PSN... It's going to be the first thing I get through PSN when I get a PS3. xD

I thought THIS was the only thing that got time traveling right:

This is true.

Sarcasm:

How can you say DDD didn't do it right:

Sora and Riku go back in time, steal their raft they already lost before traveling back in time to steal it from themselves, fight against Ursula who 1) has the trident's power she is going to steal months later, and wants revenge on the boy (sora) who is going to destroy her plans to take over the seas with her new powers she does not have yet but she still wants revenge on the boy whom she doesn't even know yet; and then The boys unlock Destiny Islands' keyhole of sleep ALTHOUGH the world is NOT even sleeping cuz it got restored properly at the end of KH1 and still some say the world got restored precisely because the boys restored it by unlocking the keyhole but they had been on the restored islands even before they went back in time to make sure it got woken up.

And here's my favorite Part:

XEHANORT had to gather 12 of his more-or-less selves scattered all over time and slip through this door to the realm of sleep; manipulate dreams, plan decades in advance, fail three times big-time and yet try to get Sora again ONLY to what avail? To FAIL AGAIN!

So he established highly sophisticated rules of time traveling that include GIVING UP HIS BODY

BUT to do ALL THIS Yen Sid just had to snip his fingers, haha.

Cuz Yen Sid sent Sora and Riku back in time without all those problems or giving up his body.

Seems like either Xehanort or Nomura is getting old!

Because time travel plot devices are something that can be played out "right".

If it's used by a good writer it can be a good plot device like in Chrono Trigger

But if it was used in the wrong way...you get something like Sonic 06 and Final Fantasy 8

Don't get me wrong, I do think Chrono Trigger is a great game and everything, but even the time travel plot device wasn't consistent with how the rules were shown (e.g. if changes are instantaneous to the timeline, then why did it take a while for Marle to disappear after she took the place of her ancestor?)But really the same can be said for any fictitious plot like that. As long as it's consistent with the rules it sets down, I don't really have a problem with it. But I don't see how Chrono Trigger handles time travel "right" when it has its own inconsistencies with the mechanics.

In that case Dr Who has it's own inconsistencies too.....unless Dr Who is a worshipped franchise that people won;t allow me to criticize

The bottomline is:If it's handled in a way that helps the plot in it's own rules...it can be good and vice versa

cuz really there is no specific rule for Time Travel as NOT A SINGLE HUMAN HAS EVEN ATTEMPTED IT TO WRITE ANY RULES TO FOLLOW FOR IT

I have never seen a fictional story get time travel right, including chrono games. Some tell better stories than others though.

I'm gonna get this game in a couple weeks probably...almost every list I look on puts this as the number one rpg
