I've browsing about Best Games of the Year, Best Games Ever and Most Sold Games, etc... and I've come to see that Kingdom Hearts, for a game that it is, has sold many copies, good rantings and a sginificant fanbase...

 

But if Kingdom Hearts is all that, how come I haven't met anyone in real life who plays it, too?

 

I mean, Kingdom Heart's overall idea is dumb, how can you mix such thing? Well, this idea sure worked nice. And also, Square Enix has many projects to work on and stil... they work so hard on Kingdom Hearts, even when theyr main goal is the Final Fantasy series... How awesome is that? There are companies that work on several projects and all of the projects that are not the main one sometiems turn out to be rubbish!

Yeah I guess it pretty popular. KH1 is like one of the best selling PS2 games of all time so I am pretty sure a lot of people know about.

For me, it was kind of the opposite. My first two years of college was like stepping into a mini KH fan circle! I knew of no less then 5-7 people who either played 1 or more of the games out of the series, or at least had heard of them.

My school's friends introduce me on this, so yes i think it is famous.

Well the series sold almost over 20 million copies and that's just from 8 games and an HD collection

 

So it is popular but within a niche group of Disney fans and RPG fans.....think of it like the popularity of Shin Megami Tensei and Persona....those two are popular and recently began to get more fame with the absence of actual good Final Fantasy games.....it's just they're not as popular as a big franchise as Final Fantasy

 

However,popularity doesn't necessarily dictate quality.I know a ton of games that while they didn't sell that high compared to some others they were really amazing...like the SMT and Persona series's that I've just mentioned

 

Just because it isn't super Call of Duty type of popular doesn't mean their idea is dumb

Not really.

In my opinion, I don't care if Kingdom Hearts is famous or not.  Just the fact that these games contain such an excellent story, awesome and engaging gameplay, a variety of characters and breathtaking music makes the games something special.  I'm pretty sure though that if you mention Kingdom Hearts around, some people are bound to know what it is.  In my eyes, Kingdom Hearts is the most popular video game series of all time, and then some!  Kingdom Hearts is supreme!  Kingdom Hearts is eternal! And well, you got all those old school Disney fans who play the games to stroll down memory lane, and then take all those RPG fans who fell in love with the games, and then take the middle ground, which is a mixture of both Disney and RPG fans, and there you go!

I get complimented every time I wear my KH2 shirt in public, so in the U.S, yeah.

I think it is pretty famous. I was introduced to it by a friend when I was like 11 or 12 at the time. When I got into college, a lot of my classmates and video game group knew about it. Also if you go to fanfiction.net, there are tons of KH fanfiction and it tops any video game category on there. It is a popular title associated with SE.
