Square Enix treats a fan badly.

Featured Replies

For everyone defending square: they also shut down the chrono trigger remake fan project and the FF VII fan film. They could give a shit less about their fan base.

Had I been the translator working on the fan translation, I would have stopped the project as soon as I heard the game was going to have an English release.  There's no point if it's going to be offered for sale in the target language.  Hopefully SE won't be too hard on her.  It does seem that she's complying, if not with a little lip.

They didn't skip e3 entirely. They announced one new game (Type-0 HD) and the year before that they announced two games at e3 (KH3 and FFXV). They have been treating their Western fans well recently. They should have ported Type-0 quicker but at least they have finally got their act together.

It's a pity that they aren't releasing this game for Vita too, though, since I imagine many fans were looking forward to a portable version.

They wouldn't release it on PlayStation Vita because the PSP version is already playable on PS Vita. Square Enix only remaster something for a platform if it's not already playable on that platform.

The PlayStation 4 version will be playable on PS Vita via cross-play.

You're crazy. And they definitely wouldn't listen to you.

Everyone covers TGS.

G-Bike bullshit? It's a bloody mini-game for smartphones and tablets. A FFVII remake would take tons of people and the game's director hasn't directed a game since VIII. He prefers producing games now.

Merging with Enix a mistake? Please. Square could have went under if it wasn't for the merger.

They wont have to listen to me. The shareholders do all the talking. Once they see profits going down, they will ring management and have them change alot of personnel there. They wasted time and money on THREE XIII games that the MAJORITY of FF fans didnt care about, Hitman Absolution didnt meet sales expectations, Sleeping Dogs didnt meet sales expectations. The only thing that saved them was Final Fantasy XIV Realm Reborn, FFX/X-2 HD remaster, and Thief. FFXV and KH3 are going to be their biggest money makers and telling fans to "remain excited" without showing any progress isnt helping them either

Hopefully FFXV and KH3 dont turn into the Last Guardian development wise

No one is worse than Nintendo, Nintendo do NOT let you post anything on YouTube Nintendo related and get monetisation off of it (Basically earning money off of the video). They will "Claim" videos on YouTube, even if it's a video praising a Nintendo game or in special cases, if someones is putting their critique on a Nintendo Game, they will abuse the Copyright System and will go to stupid lengths to get it removed from YouTube completely. Fair enough they are using Nintendo's intellectual property but they are clearly stating that it IS from Nintendo which in turn is just short for them spouting out the Copyright Infringement act and bypassing it and besides, people will know if it's a Nintendo owned property or not. IN SHORT. Nintendo are arseholes and need to stop doing this.

Because its Square-Enix property and though fans they may be they don't have the right to use any of it to create anything. That's just the way it works in the real world.

just because your a fan of something doesnt mean you own it or have any of the legal rights.

if people tranlate that and get it for free, SE would have no reason to import it to the US.

A lot more fans would miss out.

Nintendo's not pulling the videos, they're simply getting a cut of the profit. Given that it's their own IP and they could technically shut down the channel for copyright infringement, they're being quite generous. As someone who aspires to make gaming videos, specifically ones focusing on Nintendo games, I don't mind at all. In fact, I feel it's only fair that they get some of the profit. I think it's cool that they're still letting people do these videos instead of not supporting them at all.

The thing is though, other companies don't do that. Many companies even pay people to play their games on youtube to promote it. I've seen a ton of people on youtube who have gotten copyright strikes for simply showing nintendo trailers in their videos. Generous my ass.

Yes. Aka theft.

lol

The only reason this fan-translation exists is because SE didn't announce a localisation for years after its release in Japan; obviously people wanted to play it, but most people aren't going to buy something they can't really understand. To them, this was the best alternative. There are plenty of studies indicating that pirates buy more than the average consumer, if given good reason to (more exposure = good); the reason why piracy is so common is because legal methods tend to suck (you live in Australia as well, you should know why we're called the piracy capital of the world).

Lol. And the only reason they didn't release it in English on PSP was because the PSP is dead. Legal methods don't suck. I love supporting companies and businesses. And we aren't called "the piracy capital of the world" and even if we were I wouldn't care since I don't do shit like that.

I know why they didn't release it on PSP, but if they at least attempted to reassure the fanbase they were looking for an alternative release method much earlier, then people wouldn't be so agitated in the first place!

I said "tend to", not "always". Netflix is a good legal alternative, but even that's caught up in stupid geo-restriction bullshit. And I refuse to spend money on anything Rupert Murdoch-related (read: Foxtel) just on principle, the guy's a shit-eating scumbag.

(and for god's sake don't tell me you actually buy into the government's "we musts do somethingz abut teh ebil piratez!!1" crap)

Type-0's director did that. Just read his interviews.

Netflix is coming to Australia soon according to CNET.

I don't even know what you're on about. I just know that I don't like obtaining things illegally and like to support companies and businesses.

He kept waffling on about it (maybes and maybe nots) rather than direct comfirmation or at least a strong implication. No wonder the fans kept going with the fan-patch.

I've heard about Netflix coming here, but already it seems to be caught up in issues that would make it shit compared to the American counterpart (hence why you hear reports of people using VPNs to access that one; and yes, they pay for it out of their own money).

I buy stuff I think is worth purchasing; which is usually books and select video games. No point in buying something I end up finding dull, or costs way too much (which you'll find is another reason why piracy is so common here), or has stupid DRM clogging up the thing.

That's why piracy is so common, because so many companies keep bitching about it rather than coming up with a good solution! People want to buy, but too many factors deter them from doing so!

Suffice to say that I (and so many others) have my reasons to do this, and you aren't going to deter me.
