I know it's been suggested many times with having an official KH13 chatroom in places, but i wanted to know if there was ever a chance for a possible KH13 IRC chatroom? Now i say this because its more useful then the chat system we have now, if we direct to another page the chat disappears, but on IRC you can chat to other people without having this problem or anything.

If you're curious as to what IRC is, IRC stands for "Internet relay chat" Its a system many websites use to communicate with other members,

IRC has a special system identifying users.

-@ symbol, Meaning staff members/Operators.

-+ symbol, People with voice, It allows you to talk in the channel whenever a staff member has to mute it if anything bad happens.

I know this probably won't be put, but it's worth a shot at suggesting, Its very useful for communication, Very organized, and etc.

i would like that :)

Both chat systems require people to keep a dedicated window open, though. I don't think one is any more useful than the other.

I wouldn't be against having an IRC chatroom, but I don't see the point of creating something that will just compete with our on-site chatroom.

Yay, someone has interest. If this does go through, i can probably make an official guide for the staff members/members on how to use the commands and stuff. Been using IRC for along time.

Well, on our on-site chatroom, some things could get lost while maybe refreshing the page or something. Plus i don't think it can hold as many members as IRC can.

Also, with IRC if you use an IRC client such as Hexchat or mIRC it doesn't require a dedicated window opened.

Hmm, I guess it does have *some* benefits in that people can have chat histories and things like that. I'll look into it, but no promises. :P

Cool, Thanks! If you need help with registration on the IRC channel, you can always ask me :).

Do you have any recommended servers to register with? I was thinking of using rizon.net

I thought of Gamesurge.net. I use that one most frequently.

Wouldn't mind this. But I personally would rather we only have the one chat room system.

As though they are more similar/alike, There are some advantages IRC has, like DC Said. Another main reason i pointed this out is how i felt on the chat room system. I feel like it doesn't fit well personally.

I'm not arguing against it. Haha. Simply, I feel if we add another chatroom we might as well close the current one. But it wouldn't be a big deal either way.

Yeah i know, :P. I just wanted to add a little of why i feel it would be a possible idea to add it.

I've set up an IRC chatroom, but I'm not sure if I would want to switch from ArrowChat to IRC, since the ArrowChat chatroom integrates nicely with our chat bar. It would really only be a benfit for people that use IRC. I might poll the KH13 members on whether or not they use IRC in the near future and decide what we do based on that.

Good idea, there are also guides on the internet for IRC, so that wouldn't be much of a problem. It's really easy to use after a few days on it. Also, which server did you put it up on?

I'm not worried about it being difficult, just that it'd be less convenient because it wouldn't integrate nicely with the chat bar. Also, we'd have less control over the usernames that people pick (ie. people could pick any username they want, instead of being required to use their KH13 name).

Hmm, people use this thing that they implement it on their websites. Its normally on the top of their pages on a tab, they would name it "chat" and when people click on it, it gives them a generic user name, a good example would be, "KH143" which would be a generic name, though the names i wouldn't be concerned about. You could always get them to change their names to their KH13 usernames.

I would be doing that (I would change the chatroom on http://kh13.com/chatroom), but it's still not as convenient as the chatroom within the ArrowChat bar. Also, I can suggest usernames for people, but there's no way for me to stop people stealing someone else's username if they really want to.

There is always /whois -username- to check to see if that is legitimately them. Though i just kinda feel the chatroom wouldn't be as beneficial as an IRC chat room would. Though if people enjoy the chatroom, i guess it's for the best.

Interesting idea...but one problem: I get the distinct impression not many people actually use the chat. So this might not get much usage.

Maybe that's just my experience. But well, what can you do? *Shrugs*

It sounds like it could be fun and useful. Let's hope we get one, cause I'd like to try it out.

Not many people used the regular chat either, but IRC makes it possible so we can all have a better experience with chatting with each other compared to the arrowchat. Plus DC said he might switch out arrowchat for cometchat again so, why not? It would provide only beneficial.

Hmm, well I see what you mean. We shall wait and see then yes? :)

Interesting idea

I'm excited about this suggestion! I like IRC chats. :)

The only thing that worries me is when users are allowed too much control over the chat system, due to a lack of rules and limits. Having little to no rules in a chat system leads to people creating  their own chat corners and kicking anyone out unless personally invited,  chat corners filled with spam or dumb stuff, and people making excessive chat bots to take their place when they aren't there.  Rules would definitely have to be enforced on what can and cannot happen, that way it can be a equal experience for everyone.

There are a set of commands on which bots will be permanently removed, plus once you gain owner access not much anybody can do.  So uh. Not much of a problem. As for rules in general, i'm pretty sure the KH13 Moderators will enforce the rules like they always do on here. :)

That's a relief! And yeah, the Mods here are great so they'll keep a lid on things.
