Doctor Who is a British sci-fi television program that revolves around the adventures through time and space of an alien called the Doctor in his machine disguised as a blue police telephone box called the TARDIS (which stands for Time and Relative Dimensions in Space). Then along the way he also picks up companions (only the best though) to travel with him.

Though the Doctor looks human he is actually a Time Lord from the ancient planet Gallifrey (so he doesn't look human, you look Time Lord --they came first). The Time Lords are, obviously, lords of time. They have the technology to travel through all of time and space and can seemingly live on forever. They have superb mental powers, such as having telepathy and possibly even clairvoyant. They also have a little trick to cheat death called regeneration.

Regeneration is when a Time Lord completely reboots their body when they're dying to gain a new face and personality while maintaining their memories. However if a Time Lord is killed before their regeneration is complete, they are as good as dead. Within a certain time limit (I believe it's 10 hours but I'm not too sure I'll have to recheck) after regeneration Time Lords are able to heal themselves of injuries (even regrow severed limbs). As cool of a parlor trick regeneration may be, a Time Lord can only regenerate 12 times before they die.

So far, the Doctor is on his 11th regeneration, having regenerated 10 times. The current Doctor is played by Matt Smith, and his three companions, Amy, Rory, and River, are played by Karen Gillan, Arthur Darvill, and Alex Kingston respectively.

Doctor Who is the longest running sci-fi show, having over 32 seasons and overall over 700 (almost 800 last I calculated) episodes and a movie that aired in 1996. The show originally aired in 1963 which ran until 1989. The show was then rebooted in 2005 and continues to run today. It is also the most successful sci-fi series of all time.

This thread is to discuss Doctor Who; what you love about it, your favorite Doctor, favorite companion, songs you like, moments you like, and possibly even spoilers as the 7th season approaches within the next few weeks.

I will try my best to update this thread with news as it comes out. If you see something that I don't then feel free to post it as well!

So yeah go free my little Whovians!

What we know about series 7 so far.

BREAKING NEWS! I heard that the role was given to John Hurt! I'm not exactly sure it's him but I heard it somewhere!

He isn't. He is a past version of the Doctor that did something bad.

Doctor Who likes casting actors that aren't that well known. So I believe it's safe to say that the new Doctor isn't going to be a well-known actor like Rupert Grint.

Rupert Grint as the Doctor... would take some getting used to... but I think a little Weasley in our Who wouldn't be that bad in the long run. I think that it has no basis in fact however, unsubstantiated rumors do not a possibility make.

The classic series intro's are trippy as hell

Actually, John Hurt is a well know English actor. He just isn't famous here.

Sec/global mods can merge this with my other post if they feel it's necessary but yeah, didn't see why I had to edit that.

So yeah, I found this:

The Harry potter cast after having been in Harry Potter movies for 10 years, could'nt bear to part with each other, and moved onto Doctor Who together.

He is the next Doctor. It's been posted on Doctor Who official facebook page. Read one of the top comments. He was introduced in The Name Of The Doctor. See Here:

I don't think he is the new doctor, because Matt Smith recognized him, saying that he was his secret, the one he had to keep forever. I'm guessing that was the one who ended the time war, because none of the other doctors had done it. So, a secret doctor between 8 and 9. The Doctors greatest secret.

Found this funnier than I should've.

Yeah I agree. Personally if there is one old guy I would want to be the Doctor is Alan Rickman. But he doesn't even like the show supposedly BAD SNAPE! LOLz anyway No I haven't seen the episode but because of my brother who spoiled it for the most part I pretty much know what happens. Not everything but yeah. Christopher Eccleston I believe refused to be in the 50th. I want the Master to return though.  However I think someone was originally cast as 9 but something happened and he didn't do it so Eccleston got it.

I hope they'll find someone to play the twelth doctor..

It's a shame the article said the spinn-off was unlikely, a show of Strax, Vastra and Jenny would have been cool. : /

I heard they were announcing the new Doctor sometime during September-November.

Now I must wonder if they'll release them separately.

I'm not sure. They haven't done that yet in Britain either. In fact, THIS isn't even on amazon.co.uk. Weird.

Oh man, why haven't I found a new job yet? Who cares about food and bills, I need money for THIS.

Also, did anybody here read the Doctor Who novels? Which are your favorites? I managed to get my hands on most of them and I was wondering if I should read them in order or not... I figure the Eight Doctor novels are all related to each other, but I think the new Who ones are stand-alone stories?
