Doctor Who is a British sci-fi television program that revolves around the adventures through time and space of an alien called the Doctor in his machine disguised as a blue police telephone box called the TARDIS (which stands for Time and Relative Dimensions in Space). Then along the way he also picks up companions (only the best though) to travel with him.

Though the Doctor looks human he is actually a Time Lord from the ancient planet Gallifrey (so he doesn't look human, you look Time Lord --they came first). The Time Lords are, obviously, lords of time. They have the technology to travel through all of time and space and can seemingly live on forever. They have superb mental powers, such as having telepathy and possibly even clairvoyant. They also have a little trick to cheat death called regeneration.

Regeneration is when a Time Lord completely reboots their body when they're dying to gain a new face and personality while maintaining their memories. However if a Time Lord is killed before their regeneration is complete, they are as good as dead. Within a certain time limit (I believe it's 10 hours but I'm not too sure I'll have to recheck) after regeneration Time Lords are able to heal themselves of injuries (even regrow severed limbs). As cool of a parlor trick regeneration may be, a Time Lord can only regenerate 12 times before they die.

So far, the Doctor is on his 11th regeneration, having regenerated 10 times. The current Doctor is played by Matt Smith, and his three companions, Amy, Rory, and River, are played by Karen Gillan, Arthur Darvill, and Alex Kingston respectively.

Doctor Who is the longest running sci-fi show, having over 32 seasons and overall over 700 (almost 800 last I calculated) episodes and a movie that aired in 1996. The show originally aired in 1963 which ran until 1989. The show was then rebooted in 2005 and continues to run today. It is also the most successful sci-fi series of all time.

This thread is to discuss Doctor Who; what you love about it, your favorite Doctor, favorite companion, songs you like, moments you like, and possibly even spoilers as the 7th season approaches within the next few weeks.

I will try my best to update this thread with news as it comes out. If you see something that I don't then feel free to post it as well!

So yeah go free my little Whovians!

What we know about series 7 so far.

Haha. Sora96, just finished that video. That was great! Loved the ending.

Was kinda wondering how The Doctor and Clara got out of the Time Stream... Maybe because The Doctor entered his own time stream, it would set him back to the point in time he was supposed to be in, And since Clara was in his Time Stream as well, he could just pick her up and resume where they left off. Who knows...EDITSORRY FOR THE DOUBLE POST! I didn't notice I was the last one to post! So sorry!

Moffat has confirmed that Matt Smith is now the 13th regeneration. (David counts has 2 regenerations because he used one of them when he shot the regeneration juices into his hand.) Meaning he is the final regeneration. Considering how we know Peter is up next. The Christmas special must be about how he is going to get around the regeneration limit. Now that Gallifrey is back. That could mean that they give The Doctor more regenerations. Because they have offered The Master a whole new regeneration cycle before. So yeah....This should be exciting.

TADA!

Asked about the Christmas episode and the regeneration of Doctor Who, Moffat confirmed Matt was the 13th Doctor and told the Mirror: "The 12 regenerations limit is a central part of Doctor Who mythology - science fiction is all about rules, you can't just casually break them.

"So if the Doctor can never change again, what's Peter Capaldi doing in the Christmas special?"

For those who wants to learn about the science part of Doctor Who, this is a VERY good lecture video. I loved his other lectures and he's quite an interesting guy. Give it go. It's very interesting. =)

^This one makes me think of Wilson and Tom Hanks in the movie Castaway. :P I mean, he DOES seem to be carrying it around everywhere...

And here is something that was posted on bleed cool

Bleeding Cool has seen what purports to be a full outline of the special, but, you know, there are spoilers and there are spoilers, so we’ll keep most of it until it airs. But for those who need to know… and if you are happy reading this with a pinch of salt…

A bell tolls across the Universe. Many are afraid, The Doctor and Clara are… curious.

You will come to Christmas Town, a place of peace, welcomed by Rob Jarvis and Tessa Peake-Jones.

You will come to Trenzalore, a planet of war.

You will find out where Gallifrey went.

You will discover what the Silence are.

You will see who the voice in the TARDIS was.

The episode will be nine hundred years long.

There will be Daleks, Cybermen and Weeping Angels. Some of them will be wooden. So will The Doctor.

He always has Handles. And grab hold, as you will find out what the hell that crack in space and time actually was. Because The Time Of The Doctor will be going right back to The Eleventh Hour.

  • 2 weeks later...

if Disney or Universal Studios made a Doctor Who attraction that is like Transformers the Ride would anyone ride it?

YES.The park-goers will sit inside the console room of the TARDIS. The TARDIS makes the noise, and the ride starts. A screen turns on displaying one of the 12 Doctors. They tell us that we're in charge of flying the TARDIS to him while he's fighting an enemy horde (The Daleks, Weeping Angels, etc) The TARDIS spins and whooshes around, while music plays and sounds go off. It's like the TARDIS is on a roller coaster. And then it lands, the screen displays the Doctor saying thanks, and everyone leaves. :D

The idea would most likely be a motion simulator dark ride, the ride vehicle well if you saw the ride vehicle of Transformers than you know what the riders would riding one. The Doctor appears on the screen of the ride vehicle sometimes on the big screens showing The Daleks,Weeping Angels,Cybermen,The Silence that would also try to destroy the "companions" (the riders). Most likely 10th,11th, and 12th would have to be use since the 9th Doctor well his actor no longer plays the Doctor. The ride vehicle would be called the Mini Tardis. The queue would be like a museum showing in the first part the picture frames of all 13 Doctors, stasis cube of the Doctor's items, clothes that the Doctor wore since his first incarnation,a frame picture of Gallifrey Falls No More, empty husks of the Cybermen, and Daleks. The preshow woud be in the TARDIS with the Doctor being projected,Commander Strax would provide a legally required safety video before going to the actual ride. Some of the ideas was based off this rct3 attraction.http://youtu.be/h5a2qd22Z28
