I was wondering if Riku may regain the ability to enter Dark mode in KH III

In KH II it was assumed that Riku lost all his Dark powers when the Kingdom Hearts Encoder exploded, but as he can still use dark type attacks in 3D it stands to reason that he was merely cleansed of Ansem's Darkness but can still use his own.

Remember, the suit was granted to him by Maleficent, not Ansem and in BbS we learn that Maleficent has the power to draw out ones inner darkness if there is a sufficient amount. So it stands to reason that Dark Mode is the result of Maleficent doing this to Riku so as Riku gains mastery of his dark powers do you think he could regain the ability to enter Dark Mode?

 

Also, will it ever be explained exactly why Riku's Dark Suit looks so much like Vanitas'?

I want to like this post, but darn Quota. I think its possible for Riku to regain it, and i hope he does, i loved Dark Mode. Only question is, how would we trigger it without the Card system, unless it was made to be like Drive forms. :

Dark Mode will return, but the only person who can use it will be Pence

 

Also chalk that up to laziness, less work to recycle outfits and character models (Xehanort/Ansem the Seeker of Darkness clothes, Ven/Roxas, Sora/Vanitas, Pence/Kairi)

I think Riku was able to enter this mode because he has a very strong Dark Power by his own, I don't think Maleficent triggered that even though she indeed strengthened his Darkness. Anyway, the Dark Suit subject always intrigued me.. and considering Vanitas most likely will return, this fact should be explained somewhere in the plot

Yes, so we can see the return of his beastly Darkness powers but to a great degree considering he has full control over it now.

Maybe it will return. it will probably be replaced with something else if Riku is playable. For example, it could be Riku's version of the EX gauge that causes him to enter dark mode

Fool. I wouldn't think he should need a dark mode. He should be able to use all his powers as is.

That's why I always prefer that each character in KHIII should have his own command way, generalizing the original command of KH and KHII to all the characters would force to some eliminations. For example instead of drive form, master Riku should be able to get into some command styles (From 3D when merging with Spirits) and Dark Mode.Sora and Roxas fit with the normal KHII command.Master Aqua with Terra and Ventus should use the normal Command Deck and Style.

If they want to become more creative, they can put their creativity in the new playable characters like King Mickey (as full), Kairi and Lea, but not forcing all the characters with different command types to stick with one. 

But Riku doesn't belong to the dark anymore so he probably couldn't right? Besides why would he want dark mode when he can now do way cooler stuff and now that he's a keyblade master?

I want a Dark Mode similar to Terra's one!

a playable dark Riku would be awesome! and maybe the dark mode could be triggered when you fell below 25% of health or something

Dark mode was an unstable version of Riku's darkness. Riku has full control over his darkness, meaning it's stability is at an all time high. So I think it's unlikely we'll see dark mode Riku back.

Without the cards, it would have to be a Drive form. 

My opinion on the look is Dark Riku could've possibly been an early Vanitas design.

Actually, everything hints that Dark Mode is actually a more focused version of his darkness. Maleficent brought Riku's darkness to the surface in KH and Ansem tempered the darkness in CoM, when you temper something is becomes stronger and more precise.

Okay so I guess he could still go into dark mode but I don't know why hid want to. It seems like he can do everything he could do in dark mode and more, without using it now!

I loved Dark Mode in Re:CoM, but I'm not sure if it would make sense in KH3. Maybe something different but equally as cool.
