Sakurai, if you do stop making Smash games, whether the series stops completely or is taken over by another person, you will be severely missed.

As sad as this is to hear, if it means the guy can rest for once, I'm happy. Sakurai deserves it.

 

Also, this might seem ignorant, but this probably means Smash 4 will be the best in the series. As much as I love the developers at Nintendo, none of them have the same dedication as Sakurai. I fear future entries wouldn't be nearly as polished as what we have now.

I'm just taking this with a grain of salt because this is what he says after every game since Melee.

agreed. i dont agree with everything he has decided / done but he is deffinetly my favorite developer at nintendo. his dedication and passion match no other developer i know of and he makes great games to boot! im glad he might get a break. he deserves it after all his work. he is deffinetly a person to be respected. i appreciate his games to no end. both because they are fun and because there was such passion and devotion put into them. my profile picture and signature serves as proof! ^_^

Sakurai's definitely the game developer I respect the most. As someone who plans to get into game development myself, Sakurai's my role model. His games are amazing, and he works harder than anyone else I've seen. It sickens me to see him get so heavily criticized by ungrateful "fans."

Lol he's been saying this since Melee. I won't be surprised if he ends up making another Smash bros game for the next gen system.

well, i wouldent say i critisize him. he is deffinetly in my top 2 game developers (i cant decide between keiji inafune and him but im leaning toward sakurai) and he makes some of my favorite games. that said, i dont think he is perfect. he does troll the community a bit (like teasing chrom and giving lucina even though he knew everyone wanted chrom (i do like playing as lucina tho ) and some other things) so that is one negative BUT as to how much work he is doing, i can let that slip my and themsome. it is HIS game and he could do what he wants with it. and he is doing 99% good with it. pls dont think im insulting him in anyway. i just thought that some stuff he did was unnecesaraly trollish. i still respect him the most out of all developers. he is by far the most dedicated developer i have ever seen in my life and his passion toward what he is doing makes him a developer that deserves to be recognised by anyone weather they like games or not. if any developer was legendary, it would be him.

The positive side is that we should see cool new games from him that way, and maybe some new blood working on Smash Bros will give it some new ideas

I'm pretty sure Sakurai has said that he's done with Smash everytime since the release of Melee. Nintendo just keep announcing new Smash games and hoping he remains on board. Which is actually what happened with announcement of Smash 4, Iwata announced it and then asked Sakurai to direct.

 

...Sakurai deserves his break now with the release of the Wii U version, he's done so well. While I'm sure the Smash series will get given to safe hands at Nintendo, I do hope Sakurai stays on as some consultant to the series or something.

This honestly doesn't surprise me, seeing as Sakurai wanted melee to be his last smash game, but nintendo wanted him to make brawl and 4 so he went along with it. Personally I'm just excited to see what sakurai's going to work on next, be it a grand return to kirby, a new kid icarus, or something completely different I can guarantee it will be amazing.

I wasn't trying to accuse you. He can be a troll, but I actually kind of enjoy that (I saw the Chrom thing as a rip on the Gematsu worshippers personally). He does have flaws, but it's the good that makes him my favorite developer.

I just don't see why he has to make each Super Smash Brothers game better after each one. For me just give us the characters that stand out; like Wii Fit Trainer and add a lot more arena's and I'll be set.

Yeah but look at where it has lead Sakura he doesn't even want to make the game anymore.
