KH13's (Official?) Best and Worst Game of the Year Awards! -Round 1-

Posted

Hello all! As 2014 draws to a close, it has come time to judge what games really stood out this year. So, I decided to make it so that one game wins KH13's "Game of the Year" award, and another game wins the "Krazily Heartbreakingly 13ad" award. Here's how it will work, DChiuch permitting:

In Round 1 (this topic), every KH13 user is free to comment which games are the best and worst games they've played that came out this year. They are not limited to one choice for either option, and can post whichever games they think are among the best or worst of the year. I'll look over this topic at some point in the near future (when I feel that I've given everyone sufficient time to post their opinion). You can vote for a game even if you haven't played/beaten it, or have simply seen a Youtuber play through it or something like that.

Rounds 2 and 3: Two Polls, one containing all the most popular contenders for best, and one with all the most popular contenders for worst. Everyone can cast their vote, even if they did not say anything in the first round.

Announcement of the winners: When enough votes have been cast for best and worst, I will photoshop a "Game of the Year" crown onto the box art of the game voted the best, and a "Krazily Heartbreakingly 13ad" dog doo badge onto the box art of the game voted the worst, and post these in an announcement topic.

A few more things:

  • Feel free to comment if you think there is a better way to do this.
  • If you want to make the "GOTY" crown and/or the "K.H.13." dog doo badge, let me know!
  • At this point, I am disqualifying re-releases. This means that games such as "The Last of Us: Remastered," "Grand Theft Auto V" (PS4/XBOne), and yes, even "Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX" are not allowed, because they are simply older games that were bumped up one console generation. If someone thinks of a good reason to consider otherwise, please comment your reasons and I'll think about it.
  • Pokemon OR/AS, however, is allowed due to it being a complete remake with extra content, not simply a remaster.

Have fun!

Not gonna lie, Five Nights is garbage. It's popularity doesn't even make sense to me. It's a pretty simple game with little scare factor to it. The lore is alright I guess.

I mean yeah, there wasnt much to it, but it was pretty scary, and i enjoyed my time with it. Thats just my opinion though.

The simplicity is kind of what makes it good, though. It's a simple concept that's easy to pick up on but difficult to master. As far as the scares go, while the jump scares are the most notorious aspect of Freddy's, the real horror of the game comes from paranoia and the fact that you are constantly forced to react while the animatronics try to break in, coupled with the increasing panic as one tries to shuffle their resources to keep tabs on all the monsters, the most valuable resource being time.

I have to admit,as much as I've enjoyed let's plays of Five Nights At Freddy....that's not a good game at all

It isn't even a well crafted horror game tbh since all you do is stand there, close and open doors and watch the camera with no music(sure it's atmospheric but ambience could've been added to the mix with silence y'know),still shots of a graphics and no plot aside from the shitty job you acquired at Freddy Fuzzbear's pizza.

Want a horror game that isn't FNAF or an overbloated zombie shit?Try Corpse Party

Holy crap I caused a lot more discussion than I thought xD

If people like the game, that's fine, but to be honest, it lasted like a week for me before I just got tired of it. :/ Too many jump scares, and I usually like more interaction in a game.

Lol. It's important that it is discussed though. It's like there's never been this discussion for FNAF.

Please someone tell me I'm not the only one who played Corpse Party in KH13

I really love that game

May as well add my own:

Best:

Super Smash Bros. 4

Worst (That I've played)

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII (I'm sad to admit it, but this game could have been so good and they just completely wasted all that potential)

^ Same thoughts with Lightning Returns. They were heading in a great direction with XIII-2, but honestly, tying tedious/fetch quests to your level wasn't a good idea, and the story felt butchered due to the non linearity, plus they basically crapped on the rules of the XIII universe and didn't do good things with the characters all around, plus the ending in itself wasn't that good either. : The only thing i genuninely like about the game is the Battle Gameplay in itself, even if some costumes were a bit fanservicey, the battle's were pretty fun and enjoyable IMO.

Can we include iPhone/internet games?

Best: Pokemon and Mario Kart

If only they kept Caius as the main villain, continued with what plot they had in XIII-2 and DIDN'T TIE LEVELING UP TO BULLSHIT FETCH QUESTS(Holy shit I hate that leveling up system)....the game would've ended up being good

But no of course Toriyama can't keep up a good streak before firetrucking it up.......X was great and he had to ruin it with X-2,Parasite Eve was fine until he came up with The 3rd Birthday and now this

Hrm

Really tempted to vote Transistor

but I can't really do that since the real success story of this year is Shovel Knight

Best:

-Super Smash Bros. Wii U

-Pokemon Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire

Worst:

-Sonic Boom Rise of Lyric

You can say both for now, if you want. You'll only need to make a final choice during the poll.

I don't really have a GOTY....this was the year of the remakes....however the worst is LR:FFXIII

Best: Hyrule Warriors

Worst: Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, Five Nights At Freddy

This. Although, IDK about Caius as the only villain, i mean, as much as i liked him in that role, and that he should've had a more screentime/effect on the plot, i felt that Bhunivelze being the villain basically brought the game back to it's roots and original theme, as in "Defying Fate/Gods", so that's the only real thing i liked about Bhunivelze being the villain over Caius. TBH, from the previews and info we got of the game before it's release, it looked like it had aloooooooooot of potential on its own, but the way they implemented it in the final version and the details of the story...It really just ruined it. And then they screwed up the gameplay.

Although i will say, the ending was doomed to be crap from the start, because Toryiama wrote himself into a corner saying that the ending of XIII-2 caused the world to begin erroding/dying from Chaos, so really, the only things he could do at that point would be find some B.S. way to save the world, or have everyone go to a new one. : Although, at leasti t gave us a downer ending for one of the few times in an FF game, plus it's the only time a villain in FF truly wins on every scale.

But enough chat about that though, this isn't the place for that, lol.

Best:

- Super Smash Bros for Wii U

- World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor

- Transistor

Worst:

- Watch_Dogs

- Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII

Oh man,i forgot all about shovel knight. imma change my vote right quick.

I still need to play Shovel Knight... Too many good games came out this year that kept me away from it.
