Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX bombs, X/X-2 HD Remaster continues to sell

Posted

According to VGChartz, Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX sold 138,932 copies in North America as of December 6. North America is the series' strongest market. The numbers weren't much better in Europe with 103,819 copies. This brings the combined worldwide total to 460,000 copies.

This is the lowest selling entry in the series by far with Re:Chain of Memories the closest on 870,000 copies despite not being released outside of Japan & North America.

On the other hand, Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster continues to sell. The PS3 version has hit 1.11 million copies sold while the Vita version has sold 620,000 copies. That's a combined 1.73 million copies sold worldwide. Important to note this does NOT include digital sales and X/X-2 HD Remaster has sold very well digitally and topped the PlayStation Store charts in March.

Because I made the topic. Lol.

That doesn't mean you know. Lol.

It would've had a better chance at sales if it was released on the PS4 at the same time as the PS3. Justifying a PS4 port based on the sales of the PS3 edition is a really dumb marketing strategy, and I doubt a PS4 port will even happen now.

We don't need to discuss their reasoning for that now. It adds up though, we don't have KH2FM+'s sales and when you add that with possible sales in Europe & Australia it would have most likely outsold KH3D.

I doubt it. Inflating Re:COM's sales so that 20% of the sales would be from Europe/AU puts it at about 1.1 million, which is still below 3D's 1.3 million sales...I'm curious as to why 2.5 sold so well in Europe and AU (being roughly the same as NA)... Maybe they aren't adapting the PS4 as quickly or something. KH 1.5 sold about 35% in those regions which is understandable since they never got Re:COM but I didn't think it would continue to KH 2.5

If you are referring to needing to have it sell more, well it's pretty obvious when their only titles released since April to sell well are XIV, PC games and mobile games.

That's not including KH2FM+'s sales though.

Hopefully they still do port it to PS4. And port to Xbox One as well, if their contracts allow it.

Xbox One is unlikely since X/X-2 HD Remaster isn't coming to Xbox One and I believe they're under the same contracts as KH1 & 2.

I guess so. I doubt that would have sold enough to push the sales above KH3D. Surely the Japanese would only rebuy the same game so many times? lol

Yeah, I never thought they would... It would still be nice to Xbox players if they could find a way though.

Ummm, KH2FM+. You add all the new KH2FM content and it was Re:CoM's first time on the market.

Yeah, it's unfortunate that Xbox players probably won't be able to play them.

ahh, my mistake lol... Yeah, it probably did sell more than KH3D, then.

I really hope this doesn't affect a possible 3D hd.... or the actual development of Kh3..... These are bad news for the Kh fanbase...

I do think it will affect the possibility of a 3DHD re-release but I don't think this will bother KH3.

uh

half a million sales isn't exactly a 'bomb'

Still the worst selling release in the series so far and Square Enix needed more.

This isn't a big deal if you ask me.

It probably didn't sell well because everyone that knows about the game were the ones that bought it over it attracting new fans. If people don't find it interesting enough to buy that's not my problem. We all love it and that's what matters, some people don't know what they're missing.

I just hope you realize VGChartz gets their numbers straight out of their ass.  I wish I can quote you on that, but unfortunately the Atlus forums are deceased.

VGChartz's numbers sound right when compared with what numbers Square Enix releases.

That's the issue though, they get numbers that sound right, they're not actually valuable as anybody but a general idea

Rereleases are always the worst selling in a franchise. For the budget 2.5 no doubt had, half a million sales is plenty. You're going to have to give me citation if you want to tell me Square Enix expected or needed more

The numbers are right though, Square Enix's numbers confirm this.

What Square Enix release on consoles or handhelds since April has sold well? I can't think of any. They really need to depend on Type-0 HD selling well now.

I severely doubt Square Enix has any concrete numbers about the western release of KH2.5 this soon after its release

Square Enix isn't doing great, there's no denying that, but they're doing well enough to not be in trouble right now. The gambit of remaking FFXIV payed off, their western properties have been doing pretty well. Mobile stuff has apparently sold well too, despite their price.

But here's the thing, business is a slow burn. Having a bad year isn't the end of the world. It's that attitude that makes people think Nintendo will file for bankruptcy after the Wii U didn't do well. Square Enix isn't putting their hopes and dreams into cheap remasters. Right now their big investment is FFXV, but even then they have other stuff going on, they didn't put their eggs in one basket

again, I'd prefer citation that Square expected or needed 2.5 to sell a million units or whatever

Yes, XIV and mobile have done extremely well. One billion yen in one month on a free game is amazing. They still want sales from console and handheld games though and Curtain Call and 2.5 have not done well enough. Hopefully Dragon Quest and Type-0 HD brings in what they need.

they don't care where the money comes from

If KH1.5 and KH2.5 sold lost money, Square wouldn't care, because it's basically advertising and hype building for KH3, where more of their money is going

Yeah, that's true but it also means they'll continue to focus more resources on mobile games.

Yeah, that's true but it also means they'll continue to focus more resources on mobile games.

yeah, don't get me wrong, I want stuff on consoles to succeed because I loathe the mobile gaming industry, I want good ports of classic FF games, not the... things... they put on phones. But half a million on a low budget title like this isn't half bad at all

It's because everybody who might enjoy something like an HD remaster of KH is busy throwing their money at Nintendo and the other game developers because that is how it is this time of year. Not everybody wants/needs an HD remaster when they are buying brand new games that are beautiful and what they want more.

Nailed it.
