What should I recommend to my mom?

Posted

Okay, my mom works at a job which is basically like an office for human rights, and i'm going to recommend to her some anime/movies/tv shows that have to do with that theme.

Examples for what i'm going to recommend:

Titmouse's Motorcity - Because in the series, a dictator has basically banned people from having personal freedoms.

X-Men - Because mutants are like an allegory for oppressed minorities

What else should i recommend?

How about "The Office"? A tv show about a bunch of people working in a office.

District 9. The Prawns are an allegory for pretty much any minority in history, and the movie does an excellent job at showing how human beings are the worst lifeforms to ever exist.

Why would you recommend her some shows that would remind her of her job?

That's like giving a chemist a chemistry set for Christmas....

Writers of Freedom (I'm not sure if that's the movie's name in English, it's "Escritores da Liberdade)

It's a great movie about that topic ;)

I don't know why they have to be in that theme, unless of course your mother asked you to recommend her something that deals with that specific topic, but most things I watch don't really focus on human rights, it might be mentioned at one point or another, but other than that nope.

And yet, you'll still find Chemist's watching Breaking Bad.

Schindler's List is one of the most incredible films ever made and fits this theme perfectly.

Amon's presence up there made me think of Legend of Korra. Systematic oppression of folks born with a trait that's seen as a danger to society would probably tickle some of your mom's fancies.

I'd recommend Code Geass: Lelouch Of The Rebellion.  Basically, this anime is about an empire that has taken control of all the world, and they treat the people in Japan like crap, stripping them of their nationality and their pride and being renamed as the elevens.  That's basically taking away their country's identity.  The anime deals with a lot of oppression, and how Lelouch strives to change the way things work, to give people the right to be free.  He gains the power of Geass, which is basically the power to make a person bend to your will.  Definitely an amazing anime, and one of my personal favorites!  Your mom would definitely love the anime for sure. ^^
