Update

New information via an inside source at Konami speaking with Gamespot stated there was a “fallout” between Kojima Productions and Konami – or a “power struggle” of sorts.

The friction has supposedly caused senior staff no longer having access to corporate Internet, emails, or even the company phones.

Kojima and other key developers on Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain reportedly have limited opportunities to appear at functions marketing the game with senior staff and Kojima working as contract employees.

“After we finish MGS5, Mr. Kojima and upper management will leave Konami,” said the source. “They said their contract ends in December.

“At a team meeting, Mr Kojima explained that the team have to be one and make a good game for fans.”

Original Story

We contacted Konami for comment on the changes and held off reporting anything on the matter until a representative got back with us; in the interim, a statement was provided to Videogamer:

“Konami Digital Entertainment, including Mr. Kojima, will continue to develop and support Metal Gear products. Please look forward to future announcements.”

A vague comment with little no information to be sure, but NeoGAF – which were the first to provide the information – dug up more oddities pertaining to the the current status of Konami and Kojima

For instance: the Kojima Pro Twitter account is asking all followers to switch to the new, a dedicated Metal Gear Solid 5 Twitter account.

NeoGAF also noticed the Splash Page for Metal Gear Solid 5 no longer lists the “A Hideo Kojima Game” subtitles. The same can be said for the Legacy Collection and Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes.

There’s more: Kojima’s website, KojiPro now redirects to a new Metal Gear Solid portal and links to Kojima’s Twitter account no longer appear on the website.

The Kojima Productions LA website now redirects to the main Konami website, and jobs which were listed on the Kojima Pro website are now posted for Konami Los Angeles Studio – which appears to be KojiPro’s new moniker.

Earlier this month, Kojima said with the release of Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain he would “finally close the loop” on the saga.

“With Metal Gear Solid 5, I’m finally closing the loop on that saga,” he said. “In that sense, this will be the final Metal Gear Solid.

“Even if the Metal Gear franchise continues, to me, this is the last Metal Gear.”

His comments seem to have been a foreshadowing of today’s events. The executive appointments released by Konami will go into effect on April 1, which marks the beginning of the government’s fiscal year.

Many corporations follow suit and many new employees start their jobs on this day. Konami’s 2015 fiscal year ends on March 31.

MGS 5: The Phantom Pain is set for release on September 1 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC.

We will keep you up to date on the situation as more information becomes available.

So basically Konami is firing the one man that kept their entire almost non-existent company afloat...............Dick move Konami,......dick move

That's really really really unfortunate especially for a man with a huge legacy like his

Wait...so Konami is killing itself?

Yep. I was all over them news today. What a stupid move honestly.

What's worse is that they are going to milk MGS so hard after Kojima has left.... But no matter, if it's not made by Kojima it's not canon, he said so himself. Well not exactly these words but it's not part of his story. So yeah, Konami can go screw themselves.

Good news is that Kojima might just make his own thing now and word the way he wants. We might see new awesome games.

Wow, they're putting themselves in financial ruin.

Not to mention Kojima was working on Silent Hills. And since his contract ends in December he will probably not be able to finish his work on it. It's like they want to die.

Apparently there's like a Suivide Virus going on in the video game industry that is basically turning every company into a sequel of The Happening

It would make sense if they had other good franchises but they kinda don't. Castlevania? The last Castlevania wasn't that good. Lords of Shadow 2 that is. Lords of Shadow was good but guess what, Kojima worked on it... LOL

Classic Castlevania? Sure it was very good, but Koji Igarashi (producer, scenario writter for most of Castlevania games, directed SoTN which is arguably the best Castlevania game) left Konami last year to make his own studio.

So what do they have?

PES?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA..... please....

Yeesh. Konami seems like they make a lot of dick moves.

Mostly the companies that are named Konami

So long Konami, you beautiful bastards.

The end of Metal Gear (atleast anything worth playjng since that series is Kojimas baby and the last non kojima game Metal Gear that comes to mind is Metal Gear: Snakes Revenge......yeah)

I dont plan on Silent Hills being near as good

And the last really good Castlevania game that I played was SotN

yup. Konami just firetrucked themselves right up the ass

I'm not seeing anything saying that it's been confirmed that he's leaving, but it does seem like he is. Well, there goes Konami. :/ I hope Kojima can continue game development.

It was just recently confirmed, right after MGSV Phantom Pain release,Kojima will be kicked out of Konami, heck he isn't even allowed to be involved in MGS5's marketing and he'll just work as a retired producer until he get kicked out later this year

Konami is just going to spiral into oblivion now. Oh well. I mean, I get that Kojima is a little crazy and hard to work with, but firing the guy makes very little financial sense. MGS fans are probably not going to play future non-Kojima titles, so this all seems dumb. Also it's weird seeing The Phantom Pain no longer listed as a Kojima game. I know it's mostly just to spite the man, but it's weird nonetheless.

Konami. Really really stupid. I honestly see no point to buy anything Konami if it does not have Metal Gear Solid on it.

This came out of nowhere. A real shame too, Kojima and his games were arguably the most notable parts of Konami and the only things worth caring about from them other than maybe the Castlevania games imo.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA..... please....

If people want a soccer game they will play Fifa, not PES, so they are really dumb by doing this

Nope it's no longer a rumor, the fall out has been confirmed by Konami itself and once Kojima is done with MGS 5 he'll no longer work at Konami

Try to notice the updates on the link I posted

Or try to go to any Kojima official related page or site and you'll see that all of them now directs you to Konami's website

Oh my God Konami wtf?!

Wait for him to leave atleast you bastards!

So basically they're gonna milk the firetruck out of the Metal Gear franchise until they run it's good reputation to the ground

Let me guess, they're gonna turn it into a 3rd person shooter series with less stealth and more guns n blazin mindless repetitive combat with season pass that has most of the game's content as DLC

With that said for me the Metal Gear franchise ends with MGS 5 The Phantom Pain......after that I won't buy a single non-Kojima Metal Gear

This is pure gold!

SPOILERS IF YOU HAVEN'T PLAYED GROUND ZEROES YET.
