Mononoke (spin off of "Ayakashi: Samurai Horror Tales) (NOT the "Princess Mononoke" film) - Mystery, supernatural and Ayakashi hunting. It's great.

Shiki - Vampires that actually follow the vampire rules (can't enter houses unless invited and etc)

Mushishi - Mystery and supernatural. This one and Mononoke go hand in hand.

Bacanno! - It's frieking great mafia and crime and all

Toward the Terra - Remake of an original series long ago. Great concept and story.

Psycho-Pass - crime, suspense, amazing story and concept

RAINBOW: The criminal seven of compound 6,cell 2 (Also known as "RAINBOW: Nisha rokubou no shichinin) - The feels are strong in this one. Not for everyone due to its content, but has a great variety of characters and story and you will get attached and cry

Death Parade - EVERYBODY, PUT YOUR HANDS UP! Mystery, suspense, I think horror? Either way it's fantastic

Karneval - Pretty good concept and THE ART IS GORGEOUS

Tiger & Bunny - anime super heroes. 20 out of 10. A must watch.

Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo - adaptation of the novel with changes and settled in a more futuristic setting it's 100 times better than the actual novel screw that book watch this instead

Zetsuen No Tempest: The Civilization Blaster (Blast of Tempest: The Civilization Blaster) - Magic, apocalypse and mysterious ex girlfriend

Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic & Magi: The Kingdom of Magic - I prefer the manga but it's just a great concept and story must watch

No.6 - Dystopia drama based on novels

Darker Than Black - Super powers with an apocalyptic side and it's fantastic

RomeoXJuliet - better love story than the actual one, to be honest. Lots of changes but follows the main plot.

The Future Diary (Mirai Nikki) - Surviving a death game with a psychopathic girlfriend 101

Dangan Ronpa - Murder mystery, but in a school, and with trials.

Casshern Sins - post apocalyptic setting where the protagonist has to figure out what the heck is going on

Black Butler: Book of Circus - I liked this better than the first two seasons of the original one. Murder, mystery, circus, what can go wrong?

Hellsing - actual bloody vampires. But with class.

Code Geass - Plot twists over world domination and school life.

Katekyo Hitman Reborn - the manga is better but MAFIA BABIES nothing can go wrong with that still waiting on another season

Tegami Bachi (Letter Bee) - being a mailman/maillady has never been so stressful or dangerous while giant insects try to eat you

Wakfu: The Animated Series - WATCH IT. NO EXCUSES. JUST WATCH THIS MASTERPIECE. ONE OF US. ONE OF US.

Psycho Pass. Dystopia Japan, tough moral conflicts some with real world applications, raises questions about justice, criminality, and how society functions and can function in a world with crime, and often makes you sit and wonder, "Which side am I supposed to be rooting for? The main characters and their cause, or the antagonists and their cause?" Causing you to think and discover more about yourself and where you stand in the debate the anime brings up. It is a smart, deep, and very nice looking anime.

It is also fairly new, with the 2nd season having finished I think only a little while ago- but you can still find episodes online for free.

Persona 4 is another great one. Im only about halfway through the first season but it is funny, witty and just all around good. A little cheesy sometimes, sometimes a little confusing (especially if you never played the game) but good none the less. And you can find episodes on youtube.

If we're just throwing out random recommendations here, I guess I can give a couple. I'm not a big anime fan by any means, but there are a few that I really like. I'll try to avoid commonly suggested ones.

Akame Ga Kill- It gets really dark and violent at times, but it's a really interesting story about a battle with a corrupted government. It has great action, awesome characters, and fantastic animation. The anime splits off from the manga, but honestly, the "filler" ending really isn't as bad as the manga fans claim it is. I really enjoyed it, personally.

Accel World- This one's great for fans of sci-fi and online games. Taking place in the same world as Sword Art Online, this tells the story of a fighting game called Brain Burst. It's a great series, but the anime ended off at the second book of the light novel. There's some talk of a season two though, which means that now would be a good time for anyone interested to get ready.

.Hack (Sign, Roots, Quantum)- .Hack is another great series for fans of online games/MMOs, although this takes place in more of a fantasy setting (Roots is sci-fi from what I've seen. I haven't watched it yet, but included it because I've heard a lot of praise for it). It's compared to Sword Art Online a lot, but .Hack is much more story driven. If you're one of the people who didn't like SAO, this one doesn't have a lot of the things that turned people away from that series, so I'd still recommend this even in that situation. The only problem is that the series is spread out through different formats (anime, manga, video games, books, and a movie), so it can be difficult to get the whole story.

I could also include Naruto (Part 1 and Part 2), Dragon Ball/Dragon Ball Z, Sword Art Online, and Soul Eater, but as I mentioned earlier, I was trying to avoid naming more well known series.

Ok, if that's a yes then...

I've read enough manga and watched enough anime that if I had physically bought them all instead of getting them free i'd need to be Bill Gates.

And out of all those stories, there is only two that come to mind as the stories that changed my life the greatest.

These two are:

Oyasumi Punpun

Homunculus

They're both psychological and pretty depressing, and if you're younger than 16 i'd suggest not reading them since they'll strip you of all of your childhood bliss.

only one you need to watch is Gurren Lagann. Shinchiro Watanabe's stuff like Cowboy Bebop and Space Dandy are ace too.

If we can include anime movies in this, then checking out almost all of Studio Ghibli's filmography and Mamoru Hosoda's last three flicks are a must too

I posted two on page one. I'd higly suggest paying attention to my disclaimer though. If you choose to read them then good luck xD

Lol, sorry, completely missed that. xD

But honestly though, I'm gonna check them out. I love psychological depressing stuff. O_o
