Kairi's arrival on Destiny Islands...

Posted

Nomura said that it was both coincidence and fate, and said that Ansem sent her there to lead him to the Keyblade.

Then there's that moment in Birth by Sleep where Aqua casts a spell on Kairi that would send her to the light of another if she were ever in danger.

So, Aqua's spell sent Kairi to Sora, and Ansem sent Kairi to the Keyblade, which Riku was inherited.

To be honest I've never put any thought into it at all, so that seems as good of a reason as any other.

If Kairi's arrival at destiny islands turns out to be the result of some ridiculously well thought out plan by Master Xehanort I'm honestly going to be pissed.

Nah. I believe the Destiny Island arrival part was Ansem's doing.

You mean Ansem the Wise right? Not Ansem SoD?

The only part that Ansem didn't screw up in that sequence was Sora, Riku, and Kairi becoming friends and never being separated from one anot-oh wait...

Aqua's spell protected her, so that when Radiant Garden fell, instead of losing her heart or even ending up in Traverse Town, she was sent somewhere safe.  The question is, how was the where decided?

Ansem SoD.

Sora's light. Aqua's spell was cast so if Kairi was in danger, like big danger, she would be taken to the light of another. And guess what happy moron was full of light when Radiant Garden fell. And Nomura said that Ansem SoD basically did something similar.

Ansem is the one that sent Kairi from Radiant Garden however he did not know where she would end up. It was the magic from Aqua's spell that guided her to Sora and to Destiny Islands.

Huh, I never knew that bit about Ansem sending Kairi to Destiny Islands!  This proves one can learn something new every day!  But, if this is the case...then what happened with Kairi's grandmother?  Can we assume that she died of old age, or did Ansem kill her? :O  (We're talking about Ansem, Seeker Of Darkness, not Ansem The Wise, right?)

Or maybe, just maybe....Kairi's grandmother is one of the Thirteen Darknesses! xD

Exactly. :3 Ansem sent Kairi to wherever the Keyblade was. While Aqua's spell sent her to the young boy with an Apartment complex for a heart.

Basically. Ansem whisked Kairi away to the ocean of stars to see if a Princess of Heart would be drawn to a world with a Keyblade wielder, so that he may locate a Keyblade wielder to use for his plan. When she was found by Sora and Riku, Ansem thought he had proved his theory correctly. However, the spell Aqua had placed on Kairi ensured that even if she was lost, her heart would lead her to that of another who would protect her no matter what. So in a way, we don't know if Ansem's theory was proven or not. If anything, both concepts ensured that Kairi would arrive on the Destiny Islands, so in a way they're both the reason.

He was wrong the only reason Kairi reached Destiny Islands was because of Aqua spell. We know from Riku and Sora that once you get cast from your world you can end up anywhere. The same would have happened to Kairi if it wasn't for Aqua.

There's nothing indicating that both can't be right. I'm sure that Aqua's spell had a lot more to do with it, but so far we have no reason to believe that a Princess of Heart wouldn't be drawn to the Keyblade. Considering how close together they are in nature, I'm sure that it had at least a small role to play in that.

No, the data was just made scientifically void because Kairi already had something influencing where she'd land. We don't know whether a Princess of Heart will naturally be drawn to the keyblade if thrust into the Lanes Between. For all we know, that could be half the reason Kairi arrived specifically at Destiny Islands instead of to a world with some other bozo with a strong light.

Aqua lays a spell on Kairi’s pendant. Is it to protect her from the forces of darkness?

Nomura: Because of that pendant Kairi was sent to Destiny Island.

Not saying that's not what happened, but he doesn't say it was the only reason.

So Kairi going to Destiny Island wasn’t just an accident.

Nomura: What we wanted to show in the story this time was that “fate is inevitable”. Someday Kairi would go to a place where she would be protected by a hero of light.

Actually that's exactly what he was showing Nomura was trying to convey that Kairi being brought to Sora was no accident. He used Aqua's spell as a tool to guarantee that Kairi would be guided to Sora.

That doesn't necessarily dis-prove that the Princesses would be drawn to the Keyblade or not, it just confirms that one way or another Kairi would have ended up with Sora.

But Nomura confirmed that the reason was Aqua's spell if it were any other way there would be no reason to include that plot point.

Silence on a topic is never a confirmation nor deconfirmation. He has not explicitly stated that the Princess/Keyblade theory from Ansem was retconed entirely, so until he says it is I'm willing to believe that if anything the theory just increased Kairi's chances of ending up on Destiny Islands.

When the creator gives a canon reason there is not much room for debate but I really see no point in hammering that point into the ground. Agree to disagree.

Yes, but I'm referring to when the creator DOESN'T say anything. If they don't say "That means this didn't happen" or "This is the only thing that happened", it leaves a lot of things in the air. I don't care much for interpretive speech, as it makes for a whole lot of confusion. But sure, let's just leave it at agree to disagree for now, there's no reason to go further with this.
