In order to give people a visual idea of Konami's vision of the future, I have prepared this visual aid. Behold the future!

"...our games must move from selling things like "items" to selling things like "features."   The future is a very, very dark place.

But for the amount of effort that went into record keeper, to come out with that much money? Im sure if we were to do comparisons of resources used to profit (that inculdes advertising, and a CRAP load of money went into GTAV advertising) i think it would be safe to say that the ratio between record keeper and gtaV wouldnt be too far off.And you really dont have to care about SE mobile division, no one said that you did, you are getting a ton of stuff already from SE, from both their console/handheld developing branches, and their publishing. So there really isnt any reason to complain about them as a company utilizing another highly profitable market, if anything, they are probable one of the top 5 gaming companies with a highly diverse portfolio, other than EA and Activision of course.

It would be very far off. GTA V sold over 45 million copies.

Yeah unfortunately that is the reality of the situation.

Most people have a phone that is either android or Iphone (or a smartphone), therefore if they make games for phones they expect sales to skyrocket. They find this more advantageous compared to making games for consoles in which may perform poorly in sales. Plus it costs the the companies money to produce the boxes, the discs and everything that comes with physical console games - whereas with phone games its simply download and play while the company sits on their bottoms waiting for cash to flow into their pockets.

The three words that define game developing companies these days: remakes, fan service, and money.

And cost hundreds and hundreds of millions to make compared to Record Keeper which wouldn't cost much at all.

exactly, like with what I said in my post

Castlevania fans would disagree atm. And Kojima's gone.

Aye, not to mention Silent Hill. But whatever, if Japan wants to continue with mobile gaming be my guests. I'll stick to my big screen here in the west thank you.

It's just more convenient to Japan since they're always out or working and their homes are usually small.

I have my reasons to complain with Konami, but it's more on the card games industry, rather than in the video games industry xD

THIS MAN IS NUT!!!!! THIS IS BOLSHEVIK! WHAT KIND OF IDIOT CEO WOULD SAY SUCH AN AWFUL THING! THAT PIECE OF CRUD!!!!! GET A LIFE MISTER C E NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Glad I got that out.

More than just indies. Lol. Five years, it's likely. Well that's where you're wrong since you can get 16 billion yen off a free game in a matter of months.

This world is cruel.

Well ya know it's not like PS4 is the fastest selling console in history or anything. :/

Well that's a terrible thing to wake up to. As if getting rid of Kojima wasn't enough, now they're slowly trying to get rid of their console gaming market too? As soon as I'm done with MGSV, the series and it's company will officially be done as far as I'm concerned, cause I'd really rather not see the kind of cheap future this CEO has in store.

Seriously, these last few decisions should be reason enough to get the guy replaced by now. Getting rid of your star developer, trying to move to an entirely mobile phone market, what's next? Making ladders? Yeah, that's a viable business model.

It's just more convenient to Japan since they're always out or working and their homes are usually small.

I suppose that's all fine and dandy for them, but when America makes up a majority of the world's consumers and are the biggest consumers of video games, just don't expect to make as much off of them if your plan is to focus on Japan. Essentially all this really means is Konami has stopped giving a crap about America.

Well it's either that or they make mediocre games that sell poorly. :P

Well cell phone games are usually games that are mediocre, but sell well. Smartphone games that rely on microtransactions rely on being frustrating and not fun to make money.

Konami could you know... Just make better games, but that might involve GASP market research, risk, investment and effort! No, the horrors of having to actually behave like a business, say it isn't so! Doom and gloom!

In all seriousness, if Konami wishes to take the easy way, out good for them they'll be crying up a storm though when some major AAA title breaks world records of sales and makes insane profits and then they'll be inside going "we could have had that money... Awww man..." Mobile games are only the temporary future.  The platform does not service games for very long. Look at Square Enix's Chaos rings, years without an update, people complaining it doesn't even work on fairly recent phones and no real plans to update it to make it do so. The moment app support is lost, the games are thrown into the trash heap to never be heard from again. As much as I am a PC gamer guy, this is part of why I still own consoles: you will always own the game when you have a piece of hardware to play it. Smartphones do not last long, and it's impractical to save like 4 smartphones with different Android/iOS versions so you can keep your older mobile games.

Mobile games are OK, but handhelds like the 3DS are a good way to go in my opinion. Mobile games can sometimes have too many ads or are too short to waste money on. Well, there were a few indie games on the 3DS that ticked me off. One was Ikachan, which cost like $5. And you want to know how long it took my bro to beat that? Less than an hour! Can you believe it?! They tried to make it look all fantastic, but it was just too short for its worth, even if only a few people worked so hard to make it, it still wasn't worth $5. I was more ticked off than my brother was, and he was the one who bought the game!

Their games department just isn't that important to them any more, simple.

What on earth are you talking about? They've updated the Chaos Rings games fine. Lol.

Gotta tell Square Enix's support centre. They don't look at reviews.

I'm pretty sure people have on a regular basis. The point is that once mobile games are abandoned, they become unsupported and in enough time they are lost in time. That's the issue, android and iOS updates break these games compatibility regularly, and when a company stops supporting them, it becomes difficult to enjoy them because you then need to invest in older smartphones to just play them.

Also I doubt Square Enix doesn't look at reviews of their own games, that's free market research. You'd be an idiot businessman if you ignore that. Essentially the short version is that Square doesn't care if people lose support of these games because they are mobile games. They are meant to cash in during a time window. After that window passes they could care less about supporting it when a majority of the sales have passed. A lot of games are literally only designed to keep people's sales coming in while the game is in the top apps list, and the moment it is no longer in that list, they stop supporting it and focus on making a sequel.

Mobile games are meant to be very temporary. Temporary is where the money is. Business wise, it's a smart move for cash right now, but it's only really a get some quick cash right now because smart phones are always changing and thus we don't even know if the Android and iOS store will remain as big. Tomorrow the next big platform could come out and get everyone to switch to that.

well i need another company to work for once i star in my last game. TPP. Maybe ill work for Square and go make a cameo in the next FF or KH

A huge deal of which are not used for gaming. I'm guessing you'd rather FFXV be mobile. Well I'm still a console gamer and will always be.

Honestly I don't give a crap, I just enjoy video games regardless of the platform. Well you have less games to play.

Oh cool, lets make FFXVI a low-budget 3DS game with speech bubbles instead of voices since platforms don't matter or anything.
