There's been a lot of disucssion about possible alternate playable characters for KH3, in the vein of playing as Roxas in KH2. Many people think Kairi is a good candidate, some suggest Lea, or even Aqua

But with the recent trailer, here's another possibility

Young Eraqus

This depends on how much they play on the Baby Xehanort angle, but it could be a great opportunity. Gameplay-wise Eraqus uses a style similar to Sora, I'd personally love to see the what they did in KH2 happen again, specifically, Roxas used Sora's KH1 combos, which enhanced the impact of getting Sora's new combos when you got to play as him. I'd love to see that done again, with Eraqus using Sora's KH2 combos

In terms of narrative, I'm sure you can see the potential. Beyond fleshing out Eraqus and Xehanort's relationship, it could also set up details from the past more easily than having someone tell you about it through dialog, and it could even have recaps on the important details from KHUnchained. You could even visit a world or maybe even multiple worlds, and have Xehanort as a party member. It's the perfect situation for a tutorial, since it takes place in a time before Heartless and the like, so combat wouldn't be a constant thing (so it'd be easier to control the situation where you have combat tutorials or whatever)

It's also a good excuse to start at level 1 without reverting Sora again (this applies to Kairi as well) as this is a very young, and thus fairly inexperienced Eraqus

 

There isn't really evidence that points towards this scenario, or even that we'll play as another character like in KH2, but it's a possibility I hadn't considered before and that I personally enjoy the potential of

 

I always loved the idea of playing as Eraqus, but I can't see him getting a main playable role.

 

However Nomura has said that the chess scene in the trailer will be the first scene in KH3. So I was thinking the tutorial can be us playing as Young Eraqus or 'Baby' Xehanort.

I was expecting KH3 to talk about Xehanort's childhood after playing DDD and the trailer indirectly confirms. What you suggested sounds like an excellent idea and I will so happy if it happen.

It'd be good to play with Eraqus on a little tutorial just to get started and to see , maybe , how this whole "This world is just too small" thing actually begins .

That's a very good idea. From a story standpoint, I'm all for fleshing out characters more. (Though, correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't it established that Eraqus never left LoD before- at least, not after he started his training? If so, it kinda kills the whole 'exploring' scenario with him; they can retccon it, sure, but I'd rather they didn't add even more of those.)

 

Also really dig the idea of having YX as a flashback party member; reminds me of how you fight alongside Sephiroth in Cloud's flashback (aka, one of the only things I remember liking about VII).

I guess I just kind of assumed- Eraqus is established as the guy who has to watch of LoD while Xehanort gets to leave and turn into Emperor Palpatine. It makes sense that he hadn't left LoD in decades, if ever.

 

I would love it if they actually visited Atlantica to close that little plot hole, and I'd love it even more if they visited Destiny Islands and that could be a good way to actually explore the islands. Of course, because that makes perfect sense to me, it's never gonna firetrucking happen, but still, I'm liking it.

 

Also I dunno about flashbacks; there're only a few super important events that Eraqus is involved with in the story, and we've already seen most of them in BBS. If anything, I'd prefer flashback segments of YX to establish him as more of a human being that slowly got corrupted over time instead of just Super Machiavelli.

Playing as Eraqus in the tutorial sounds awesome but I also want a whole game dedicated just to those two and their journey.

I'd love any other playable character, and Eraqus as the tutorial character would be amazing! I really hope Nomura will include multiple characters in this game.

Eraqus seems to be the most likely candidate to start the journey. It makes the character that much more tragic and gives a reason to have a level 1 start.
