Just got back from this 1 night camping expedition with school, the expedition is called Duke of Edinburgh, walked like 14 miles yesterday to the campsite, camped and walked 16 miles today, and it was the only trial run. Has anyone ever done these types of expeditions?

I lost my breakfast and had to walk 30 miles...

Back in Boyscouts, I think twice. And I did plenty of other camping. But nothing too special.

Only one time did I ever get a spark from the fire in my eye. (I blame the fire! It was too big!) Luckily it didn't blind me. It hurt for a little while, I think.

I could tell of some other interesting stories during my camping trips, but it'd be way too long to tell them all.

I only went camping once when I was a scout and I completely hated this experience. I know camping is much better, or should be, but my first and only experience wasn't that great. The day was fine but the night was what made me leave. Wolves/Dogs were howling and roosters were clucking all night long, I was sweating like a fountain in the hot tent, not to mention the fact that the guy sleeping in the same tent with me WOULD NOT STOP FARTING!!!

Did anyone do any expeditions? As in walking to the campsites, camping and then walking home the next day? I had to go through sand dunes, a cliff, brambles, stingy nettles and a ton of fields. Yesterday we walked past cattle and a friend started provoking the cows, the cows formed a group and started following us. We got to the exit which was guarded by an electric fence, the cows started coming close, and I got so scared i ran under the fence without even talking my rucksack off, almost touching an electric fence and possibly dying.

They were about 2 metres away from us and staring us down, there were like 20 of them

I've been camping before, but not quite in the way that you had.  We pretty much just camped out on some campgrounds a short ways from my in-laws house in a tent as well as in a log cabin.  It was a lot of fun, but we didn't have to walk anywhere near as long as you had.  30 miles without breakfast?!  I can't even imagine this. : (

I did once. It wasn't so bad actually. It can be fun!

The only bad part is carrying rucksacks, we had the huge 60 liter ones to carry on our backs for the whole journey.

In case you've never been to Britain, it's summer and been raining constantly... So that made things worse.

Any kind of hiking I do I bring a Single bottle of water, no more no less. But 30 miles?! Must've taken alot of hours, I'm guessing 4 or 5 with breakfast, and 5 to 6 without. That's harsh man, but good job.

This was 30 miles over 2 days bro, I did 14 yesterday and 16 today. So 16 without breakfast techincally. We did take a few breaks though, for like 5 minutes though.

I've been camping before, but it's never been accompanied by a 30 mile walk. That just sounds awful. Try camping where you can drive to the campsite next time, it's way more fun.

Ah, that seems more logical. I somehow thought that you did that over a course of a single day. My brain is fried from work. (Hiking, working, and of the like can really tire a guy out.)

It was with school, it's all part of some reward scheme thingy called 'Duke of Edinburgh'. At the end you get a certificate lol

This was only the practice expedition, the real expedition is in September.

Many times with Boy Scouts. Never got to be in an RV or anything: tents and, if you got really lucky, a cabin at summer camp.

I know this pain ^

I used to go camping a lot when I was a kid.  Once while my parents were setting up the tent my cousins and I got in the car and pretended to go to Six Flags.

Oooh, dayum! DofE is effing difficult! I'll probably have to do it next year, woe is me

Should have just done the NCS challenge, apparently it's easier

Good luck mate, you'll need it!

I've been camping many times, and while we did go hiking, it was just on hiking trails around state parks and stuff. We also didn't have a tent, instead we have a camper that we pulled around with a pickup truck. It wasn't as nice as, say, an RV, but it did have air conditioning, beds (not comfortable beds, but beds), a toilet, plus kitchen appliances (sink/fridge/mircrowave/stove.) So yeah, we weren't exactly roughing it. xD

I do really enjoy camping, though. I like campfires and hiking, and it actually forces my family to do something with out technology (most in my little brother's case, he's on the computer or playing a game almost every moment he's awake, not counting school).
