Why including a Fragmentary Passage is a stroke of genius

Posted

As we all can agree, the reveal that a Fragmentary Passage would be included in 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue was the biggest bombshell of the collection, especially considering that it it looks to be done in the Kingdom Shader.  What I don't think many people have realized is that doing this is a stroke of genius on Nomura's part:

He is using and creating resources that are and will be used in KHIII

Think about it: Chances are that we will be visiting the Realm of Darkness in KHIII (where this story takes place), Aqua is going to be in KHIII (The main character of this story), she will be most likely fighting heartless (already confirmed to be in KHIII), this game will likely feature combat mechanics of KHIII, and it is likely that other important characters will appear in some aspect.

So what does this mean?

A Fragmentary Passage is likely not taking away that much development time from KHIII, but rather working side by side with it

Although we have not seen anything visually of X Back Cover, it is likely it will either be done in the Kingdom Shader or that it will be more a a textual journey.

This is very good news as we will both be getting new content and that the development of KHIII will be impacted very little by this collection.

Nomura, thank you for being the genius that you are!

So it's genius because it's doing exactly what Kojima did with Ground Zeroes.

lol i thought that after watching the trailer. but i think we will have to go there to get her out of the RoD. i knew BBS vol.2 would be in 2.8 but i didn't expect it to be in the kingdom shader, but it is genius he is giving us a KH3 demo with out giving us a KH3 demo. but if he has this much time on his hands to make a new game in the kingdom shader how far along is KH3? i still can't believe KH3 has only been in dev. for like 4 years and it almost done meanwhile FF15 has been in it for 13 and we have a release date for a release date!! xD

So it's genius because it's doing exactly what Kojima did with Ground Zeroes.

And we all know how bullshit that was. :/

Seriously, freaking Capcom did it better with Dead Rising: Case Zero for about 5 Dollars rather than 40 Dollars! Oh, I'm sorry, 30 Dollars. An arbitrary price drop.

At least this one will be with DDDHD and X Back Cover. And it'll probably be longer than Ground Zeroes.

but wasn't that just a demo for the next game and not a completely new one(i really don't know i never looked it up lol)

Agreed, GZ is overpriced. (You know a company firetrucked up when Capcom was the one that handled it better.) My point was that it's not really Nomura's genius idea, though, it's Kojima's. It's a good idea, and I like it, but it's not original.

It's was a prologue chapter that showed off the new game engine and game mechanics for the upcoming full game. I can't imagine BBS 0.2 is going to be much more than that (with a heaping helping of plot, of course).

oh. i'm thinking it might be like FF type-0's demo of FF15.

I think it's different in that Episode Duscae is a demo taken from the actual game, whereas Fragmentary Passage and Ground Zeroes are both prologue games designed to take place before the main game. (SuperiorKunivas mentioned Case Zero, and that's more or less the same thing too.) I guess it's mostly just a story difference.

yea, but who says it can't be like that, if its going to show her going through 1-3D in the RoD that more than enough reason for it to be like that rather than a short 1 hour game.

Because it was announced as a prologue, not a demo? None of us know what Fragmentary Passage is really going to be yet, but it's safe to assume it's something in the vein of GZ, where they're showing off the new engine and mechanics (hopefully). It could also be much longer than an hour, though I wouldn't hope for too much- KH3 is likely taking priority over the prologue.

i wouldn't say what hes doing is genius. more like common sense. if he's going to make a new game or whatever for KH that is on a next gen console then of course he'll use the engine they already have for KH games on next gen. also i can't see them implementing KH3's comabt mechanics past the basic combo moves. If Aqua learns keyblade transformation in the RoD then something is a bit screwy.

i'm honestly expecting more of what we got in the BBSFM Secret Episode

and i'd be pretty pissed if Chi Back Cover is just text on screen. if that's the case why don't I just read the wiki page for free.

nobody says a prologue has to be short, but i guess your right though i will still hope.

aqua can already transform her keyblade

It's just good marketing AKA milking. There is a reason Nomura didn't put 1 and 2 together in the collections. They were the 2 main interest of buyers, and the other games were supplementary.

Well DDD was a basket case. He didn't know what he wanted to do with it but he wanted to re release it for dat dough, and he knew he wouldn't sell it alone, so they had to think of some bundle. So they threw BBS .2 in there, with X cutscenes??? I think??? So while DDD is the meat, people will buy because of .2.

And they are charging $60 for this.... .2 probably won't be a full game, X seems like nothing, and DDD isn't even a full console game, and is the shortest game to date...

I'm still gonna buy it though.

actually re:coded is. WELCOME TO NEXT GEN WHERE GRAPHICS ARE BETTER AND YOUR WALLET'S LIFE SPAN ISN'T!! LOL

Amen, preach brother, preach!  Just imagine the taste we'll be getting of Kingdom Hearts III via A Fragmentary Passage!  Nomura and his team are geniuses, and I love them for always being committed to the Kingdom Hearts series!!!

THE HYPE IS REAL!!!! :D

It's so genius. Especially for the people who are uber BBS fans that have been waiting so long.

This collection is the Chain Of Memories to Kingdom Hearts 3 in terms of story and plot relevance.
