It has become a habit now that the King constantly switches between keyblades now.

 

In Birth by Sleep, it was understandable because he had not gotten into the Dark Realm yet.

But when he finally did, he used it as if it was his default.

But then in Re: Coded - Surprise surprise, wild Star Seeker appeared!

Fast Forward to DDD: Kingdom Key D is back again, once again.

In Re: Coded he was in the datascape when he summoned his keyblade, I bet that has something to do with it.

Canon-speaking, he doesn't.

I believ the real reason Mickey users Star Seeker in coded and not in KHDDD is because at the time when DDD was being made, Nomura hadn't come up with the idea of Kingdom Key D being Mickey's signature keyblade yet.

Perhaps he uses Kingdom Key D for those really serious fights and uses Star Seeker for those not-so-serious fights? 

He had to use Kingdom Key D in DDD. I mean, look at all those D's! Do you see a D in Star Seeker? That's right.

That makes no sense. Kingdom Key D was Mickey's signature Keyblade since the first game.

I wonder if Mickey could fight with both keyblades at the same time. That would be awesome.

My initial guess is that Mickey switches out keychains, sort of like Sora to create different manifestations of his Keyblade.  Why he does it, I do not know, except for the possibility that he switches over to the Kingdom Key predominately after BBS.  The reason he probably had Star Seeker in Re:coded was because it wasn't the real world.

BBS: He didn't find the Kingdom Key D in the Realm of Darkness because he wasn't there yet. Coded: The threat wasn't big enough at the time.Here's an alternate simple answer: If he wants to use Star Seeker, he'll use it. If he wants to use KKD, he'll use it.

Maybe he pauses and goes to the "Equipment" menu.

Didn't he need to find a keyblade of darkness for some reason?  There has to be a reason he spent the whole first game in the RoD.  Maybe he likes to use the different keyblades for different tasks.

He has the power to wield both so he chooses which is proper for the situation.
