Ok so unfortunately we only know a handful of what the 13 Darknesses consist of. and it's assumed at the end of DDD that at least 12 of them are set I stone. Aside from trying to figure out what the rest of them are, why is Xehanort looking for a certain 13th? Why doesn't he just go to another point in time and fine another him in the past? Is he trying to shorten the possibilities of a stronger team for the lights? Just who exactly do you think is next in line after sora to be important enough to Xehanort to call him/her his number 13?

I really do not know.  I'm guessing Nomura is leaving this up in the air for some kind of big reveal near the end of Kingdom Hearts III, just when the Guardians and the Seekers are about to throw down!  But, it could be that Xehanort wants to try and see if he could take another crack at Sora!  Or maybe he has his sights set on someone else from the side of the Guardians, and we just don't know yet!  It's all very mysterious, but I'm sure things will become clearer as we play through Kingdom Hearts III!

I think that xehanort might just be set on #13 being one of his original choices since their so powerful, riku, roxas or sora. I cant say i really blame him, having one of them as a seeker means he pretty much wins.

If so, why would he bother going after Sora, when he could've just plucked Vanitas and be done with this 13 seekers. He is probably already part of the New Org. 13.

Yeah, I know, I thought about it, and I can't think of any logical reasoning. I mean Axel was already betraying the Organisation and helping Sora so it wouldn't make sense for Lea to suddenly change sides again

My thoughts exactly. He helped Sora in Chain of Memories after letting Namine escape, and in Kingdom Hearts II he helped Sora get to Kairi.

Remember, just because someone becomes a Seeker of Darkness doesn't automatically mean they would become one willingly.  Xehanort was planning on making Riku, Roxas and then Sora as a member of the 13 Seekers of Darkness and I highly doubt that anyone of them would agree to become one.

True, but I just think that there are more likely candidates and that making Lea become a Seeker of Darkness would appear odd to me since he had betrayed the organisation twice.

That was my first thought after the KH3D ending.It is possible, since Lea has always been a mysterious person with his own motivations, but it doesn't fit that Isa is already part of the organization. Who's gonna save him, if not Lea?

Because taking Sora would have been a bigger blow to the seven and Roxas was already chosen to be one of the thirteen, but returned to Sora. Makes you wonder what he would look like as a Xehanort.

Well rendering them unconscious would make it much easier as they wouldn't resist at all, example: Sora.

Why you ask well it hinders the guardians of lights progress and it would explain Xemnas obsession with The Chamber of Repose and the Chamber of Waking. i know this isn't much to go on but it does make sense doesn't it ?

But Xehanort doesn't want to hinder the GoL. He wants all the members to gather because the only way he can get the χ-Blade is for all the GoL to fight all the SoD.
