Some people have been doubting that 2.8 will come in 2016, here's some evidence and my own theory as to when it may release.

 

The end of the JF trailer for Japan says-"Coming 2016". If you go to the official KH youtube where they uploaded the english trailer (not fully dubbed but english subtitled)

 

 

The description says "Coming 2016!", at the bottom there are western pre-order links which say "Pre order NA" and "Pre order EU".

 

As for the release date, for the 1.5 the main game was Kingdom Hearts 1 Final Mix. The original Kingdom Hearts was released in NA and Europe in September. 1.5 released in September.

 

The main game for 2.5 was KH2FM. The original KH2 released in December in NA and Europe. 

 

That infers, since Dream Drop is the main game in 2.8 and that released at the end of august. It could be possible we may see it around late august to early september, 2.8 has been in development since last august, so i'm sure 24 months would be enough.

 

Lastly, from a recent dengeki interview:

Final Fantasy VII‘s 20th anniversary is in 2017. Can we expect anything for its original release date on January 31?

Kitase: “I can’t say anything at the moment. (Laughs.)”

Nomura: “Personally, I’m waiting for Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 and World of Final Fantasy in 2016. I think when they’re completed, I’ll be able to release new information.”

I was specifically talking about the EU and NA release. As some believe it may not release for the west in 2016. But that's still another solid piece of evidence that puts the doubters to rest.

Ah, this is a good theory you have concerning the release date for 2.8!  Thinking about 1.5 and 2.5, it's true what you said!  The original KH came out in September, whereas 1.5 came out in September.  Kingdom Hearts II came out on December, and 2.5 came out in December!  So as you said, it stands to reason that 2.8 could end up releasing on late July or early August, or the latest, September for NA and EU!  Gahhh, I'm so hyped!

 

I'm one of those people that's positive we'll all get the game this year!  I've already got my PS4 set, so all I need is a release date for 2.8!  I need it!!! X_X
