Is Nintendo seriously forgetting what paper mario is really all about?

Posted

I mean if you check out their paper mario sticker jam trailer in the nintendo direct, they said that the paper mario series is a action adventure series. NO, just no. it isn't. It's an traditional rpg series. I hope that nintendo will just listen to what WE want instead of doing what they want. :(

I just want another Super Paper Mario, that's all I want.

super paper mario is okay in my opinion, but I would rather have a paper mario game similar to the thousand year door.

I've never played Thousand Year Door but I loved Super Paper Mario very much. I was pretty excited when I saw Sticker Star but then I saw it was completely different and it looks very boring.

I would strongly suggest playing Thousand Year Door or the original Paper Mario if you can (Paper Mario is on the Wii and Wii U eShop, TTYD is unfortunately much harder to get) to understand why so many of us want more of that. Both are great, and TTYD is seriously one of the best RPGs ever made.

A lot of people- myself included- didn't like Super Paper Mario because it was a complete departure from the pure RPG bliss the first two games were. Platforming is fine and all, but it basically killed a fantastic franchise, and it's yet to recover if it ever will.

Well Zeldablade it's not really the developer's fault for how the recent Paper Mario games have been. The reason why they are going a different route with paper Mario is because of Shigeru Miyamoto. If you haven't heard, Paper Mario 3DS (which was it's placeholder title at the time) was originally going to bring back elements from Paper Mario TTYD and possibly improve on it. But Miyamoto saw how the developement went for it and said that it looked too much like Paper Mario: TTYD. So that's when he told the devs to change the gameplay to what it is now in Sticker Star, as well as the story. Long story short, he wants to Paper Mario series to be a paper version of Super Mario brothers minus Paper  Luigi being playable. Just look at this video below. This gives you further proof of what Sticker Star was going to be like originally.

miyamoto, why i dont understand :(

Because he hates plot/setting/etc. for some bizarre reason. Same reason why he introduced Bowser Jr. and retconned the Koopalings from being Bowser's children to not (which was extremely stupid, considering the familial connection was one of the big reasons why the latter were liked in the first place). Probably a bunch of other examples I can't think of right now.

Oh, I get it. So Miyamoto's logic is basically:

Hey, I have an idea! Let's make Princess Peach NOT a Princess and just make it so that the Toads really like her for some reason.

it's such a shame that sticker star was origanlly going to be like TTYD, but Shigeru Miuamoto changed it because he doesn't like plot :(

Omg I remember those alpha/beta images. I got so hyped when I saw Chomp as a partner. Miyamoto isn't perfect like any other man, but this is something even I wouldn't do. Why fix something that's not broken? Can't wait to see sales be way lower than SS. Although as much as I wish for SS 2.0 to tank, there will still be plenty of people buying it because it's Mario, liked so much SS, or eat whatever Nintendo throws at them.

Agreed. I really wonder why Miyamoto wanted to change the gameplay when there was nothing wrong with it to begin with. It's what drew many people to like the Paper Mario series.

I just want Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars again ;; ...that's what started Paper Mario anyway.

Would be cool seeing a Mario & Luigi sequel to Legend of the Seven Stars.

I never really found that game to be memorable. not saying it's a bad game though. I'm just saying I didn't really like it much

Like those sorry excuses of a game Mario Tennis Ultra Smash and Mario Party 10,I think Nintendo want to rush a new Paper Mario game just to show people that they are still caring about the Wii U.Making a sequel to Sticker Star is probably a lot easier and faster to make then a sequel to Thousand Year Door. That's the only explaination I could come up with as for why they would ignore the fans like this unless they are serious about it and they intend to fix all the flaws Stickers Star had,but I doubt it.

This isn't how it works. What Miyamoto likes to do is create new mechanics. He constantly tries to do something different. In fact Nintendo as a whole makes it their focus to change things up every time they make a new title.

but he honestly shouldn't change or fix any game mechanic that doesn't need any fixing because to me its redundant. I can see it being necessary for some games, but not for the paper mario series. Why fix something that's not broken?

You can create something different while retaining what people like about the series, they do it all the time.

That's what I'm saying. But for someone to say that he hates his own games that he loves and cherishes is just outright ridiculous. That's all I pointed this out for.
