Minato arisato 253 Posted April 13, 2016 This video lists a lot of RPGs and I like it for that, anyway what have you played that's not from Square? 1 Dio Brando reacted to this
Shulk 8,623 Posted April 13, 2016 Xenoblade/Xenoblade X Mother Fire Emblem Pokemon Project X Zone Valkyria Chronicles Fallout Morrowind If only games from the Square side are being excluded, add in Dragon Quest as that's from Enix. ... and many more, these are just the more notable ones. To be honest, I think Square's overhyped when it comes to the genre. There are a lot of great RPGs not made by them that aren't given as much acknowledgement since they're not from Square. I also think their newer games don't come anywhere near the older ones but that's a discussion for another day. 4 Trece the Xam ( ▀ ͜͞ʖ▀), Sendou Aichi, Dio Brando and 1 other reacted to this

Isaix 924 Posted April 13, 2016 Yes I played the Tales games, the Xenoblade games, the Mother series,Pokemon of course,I played a couple of Fire Emblem they're alright but I'm not the biggest fan.The Paper Mario series,I LOVE the first two,Super Paper Mario was ok but it didn't reach its full potential as an Action-RPG and I never played Sticker Stars. The Mario and Luigi series is great but I haven't played the 3DS games.I tried Golden Sun,the gameplay was fun but the story was generic so I couldn't get into it but I'll go back to it someday.I tried Ni No Kuni, the gameplay was fun too but the story bored me. There are probably other games I'm forgetting. 2 Trece the Xam ( ▀ ͜͞ʖ▀) and Dio Brando reacted to this

The 13th Kenpachi 4,279 Posted April 13, 2016 (edited) FF7 was from squaresoft and Chrono trigger was from Square but not Square Enix........................... Does that count? Custom robo arena, Star Ocean the last hope, eternal sonata, Blue Dragon, lost Odyssey- those are good JRPGS. Fossil fighters is pretty good, a DS game also but you use dinosaurs so it's quite fun. Phantasy star 0 is also a blast. The last remnant is meh. Enchanted arms is the worst JRPG ever. Don't go near it. Skyrim, Witcher 3, Mass effect 2 and 3, South park stick of truth are very fun RPGS. OH MY GOD, i've been searching for this game for ages and I finally remember it. DRAGLADE, definitely a recommendation if you own a DS. If your just talking about Square ENIX, then I'd recommend final fantasy 7 and 8 as well as Chrono Trigger. I also think their newer games don't come anywhere near the older ones but that's a discussion for another day. The reason is because Square more or less has oversaturated the genre.Granted back in the day the old Squaresoft worked their ass off to set the standards for the genre to the point people now identify JRPGs with Square and no one else.Problem is when Square started to lose their touch especially in the 2010s people labeled JRPGs as dead even though there are like dozens upon dozens of JRPG franchises out there but people don't bother giving them a look cuz they're not from square Franchises like Shin Megami Tensei(that includes Persona btw),Disgaea,Tales of,Suikoden,Fire Emblem,Golden Sun,Valkirya Chronicles ,the Xeno series(Xenogear,Xenosaga and Xenoblade),Skies of Arcadia and games like Lost Oddssey,The Last Story,Pandora's Tower,Ni no Kuni......etc The genre is faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar from dead. It's the false association with Square that made it seem dead when Square started screwing up with their recent Final Fantasy outings 2 Shulk and Minato arisato reacted to this

Mystics Apprentice 2,397 Posted April 15, 2016 Hmm, though, as Square produces some of my favorite games. There are a lot of RPGs that I've played that were not by Square, though, including but not limited to: Rhapsody Golden Sun Fire Emblem Nostalgia (wouldn't recommend it) Tales of Symphonia Tales of Xillia Paper Mario Mario & Luigi Dream Team and Bowser's Inside Story Eternal Sonata Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch Many of which were fantastic; it's just Square holds some of my favorite titles. 1 Minato arisato reacted to this
