I've got a feeling I'm in the minority for this, but I thought I'd see. Does anyone else want there to be a superhero movie where the object isn't necessarily saving the world or fighting crime, but focuses more on the characters? I get why the superhero genre has essentially become synonymous with action movies (because superpowers are pointless if you're not using them), and I don't even think it's bad that it has, but given that every contemporary movie has roughly done the same dance, I'd like to see something different. Like, if the crime or big bad was the background to the character's own personal arc, rather than the other way around. One of the reasons why these characters have lasted as long as they have is because they have depth and are capable of growth, and I'd like to see a movie that really does that justice. It would be a slower pace, and it wouldn't make as much money, but I think it would be a good branch to focus on the characters more than the explosions.

You already have civil war. Crime isn't the main point here. Also chronicle. And suicide squad right around the corner. They actually are something different.

It's been a while but from what I remember, Spiderman2 by Sam Raimi was very focused on Peter Parker and his development.

sure it still was an action movie and you had to put in a vilain and have a story around it but most of the movie is about personnal questions Spidey has.

Doc Strange's coming too, and as it is an origin story we can expect something a bit slower pace and character driven. all the more since it's Doc strange for that matter.

and yeah Chronicle is a good example too.if not the best

not too sure but did Watchmen do something like this as well?

i would definitely be interested in seeing more superhero movies where the focus is on the characters. i feel like the recent DC movies have been trying to do that but haven't been very successful. not that i've seen Man of Steel or Batman vs. Super, but that's just the impression i got from them.

of course there's always a market for the summer blockbuster superhero flick, and Marvel has clearly tapped into that market pretty hard.

You literally just described every Spider-Man and/or Incredible Hulk movie ever made.

Master Dave, I suggest that you watch Captain America: Civil War!  I find that you will be very pleased with the amount of character development there!  I too, am a fan of character development, and I'm hoping Phase Three of Marvel's Cinematic Universe gives us plenty of character development for all the new faces joining the fray, such as Black Panther, Spider-Man and Doctor Strange, etc! :D
