Why is it that people consider Xion a Mary Sue? I mean I was just wondering. Since the creators of the game actually created her, how is it that she is a Mary Sue?

I have also heard many people call Xion a Mary Sue.

A Mary Sue character is a female character in a book/movie/game/whatever who is kind of "favourited" by the creators. She is often popular in the story, have all the guys falling for her and so. There can also be another kind of Mary Sue, who has a dark past etc. A Mary Sue has no flaws that the people around her blame her for, and if she has it's often just a bad temper or something. She is beautiful but doesn't think that she is, and in many cases she is more uniqe than anyone else (have a great power or something) and her name often has a special meaning.

Okay, so I don't really see why people call Xion a Mary Sue. No one is in love with her (some people say Roxas is, but that's up to you to decide I guess), she only has two friends, she hasn't made any negative comment about her looks that is wrong, and she isn't more uniqe than enyone else. The fact that she's a puppet that Vexen created and not a nobody I don't really think counts. Mary Sues are often unique in a way that they're more talented than others at something. And her name doesn't mean anything special.

So according to me, she's not a mary sue at all o_o

Just ignore those who call her such...she really isn't.... Many people nowadays use that term wrongly, applying it to female characters they don't like....you'll see it in just about every fandom... Guarantee if Xion was a boy, they wouldn't say a word...Many also accuse her of "ruining" AkuRoku, which of course is absolute nonsense! How can a character ruin a FAN made pairing? So if anyone calls her such, just ignore it...She doesn't fit the description of a Sue or the sub types of Sues anyway...

Being an original character doesn't prevent you from being a Mary Sue. That name would apply to anyone would fit the requirements for one, which Xion does. In any case, while the concept of a girl being the reason Roxas left the Organization was one decided since KH2, it was Tomoco Kanemaki, KH novelist and co-scenario writer for Days, not Nomura, who created Xion. And thus another self-insert was born.

 

Sora is one, as is Ven, but people are more accepting because they are far more likeable characters who don't freakin' -insert rant here- And no, it's not because they're male, and it definitely has nothing to do with yaoi. Everyone knows that's a poor excuse of an argument against non-Xion fans, which is why you don't here that anymore. All in all, officially she isn't a Mary Sue, as declared by the creators. Those of us who feel that she is would indeed call her that. Those of us who don't (which is the majority of this forum actually), say otherwise.

 

Also, here's a fun fact: In the KH novels (yes, me going on about novels again), there is an entire section, which takes up like the majority of a page, with the words bolded, italicized, and centered, saying and repeating nothing but the word "Xion". Over. And. Over. Again. :

I once found it, in the far ends of the internet. It bothered me so much I spent like a day trying to track it down. And once I did, there was RAGE of epic proportions. My general dislike of Xion aside, that's just really crappy writing.

Xion is more of a deconstruction of the Mary Sue. She has common Sue Traits; but was artificially created for the purposes of the Organization.

Technically "she" isn't a girl, but and imperfect replica of Roxas, and Roxas is a guy.....so she's not a Mary Sue, and don't say Gary Stu because all this things don't apply if she's a guy.
