Kingdom Hearts manga localisation to continue starting November 2013

The Kingdom Hearts manga adaptation by Shiro Amano originally begun with the Kingdom Hearts manga in Japan in 2003, and continues to this day. Originally, Tokyopop were in charge of localising the manga and releasing it in North America, however, in 2011 Tokyopop shut down and was unable to continue. This left the Kingdom Hearts manga localisation in a state of limbo... but not anymore!

Yen Press announced today that they have secured the rights to the localisation of the Kingdom Hearts manga. Yen Press will release the Kingdom Hearts Final Mix manga in two volumes starting May 2014, release Chain of Memories in one large volume in June 2014, and will begun publishing the Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days manga in North America in November 2013. Yen Press noted that in addition to these games, they have also secured the rights to the Kingdom Hearts II manga. Look forward to these official releases later on! Thanks go to VentusX from KH13 for the find.

Update 1: The Yen Press@Scon13 transcript has revealed more information about this future localisation, while contradicting some of the dates from AnimeNewsNetwork. The transcript states that both volumes of the Kingdom Hearts Final Mix manga will release in May 2013, with Chain of Memories following in June 2013, and Kingdom Hearts II following in August 2013. This is said to be followed by art books, and the 358/2 Days manga in Fall 2013. They later clarified that 358/2 Days will first be released in January 2014, with a possible earlier release in November. Thanks go to Weiss from KH13 for the find.

Update 2: Tay Takashi has emailed The Yen Press Team about the manga and their upcoming Kingdom Hearts releases. You can read their response below. Thanks to Tay Takashi.

Hi Tay,

Kingdom Hearts Final Mix will be released as two omnibuses, both available in May of this year.
June 2013 will be Chain of Memories as a single omnibus.
The order afterward is Kingdom Hearts II Vol. 1 (Omnibus), Kingdom Hearts II Vol. 2 (Omnibus), Shiro Amano: The Artwork of Kingdom Hearts, and then 358/2 Days Volume 1 (as a single volume) in November 2013 with subsequent volumes every 2 months.
Lots of Kingdom Hearts this year! We'll have more info about dates up on the site very soon, but all of the books mentioned above will be available over the summer/fall beginning in May 2013.

Best,
The Yen Press Team

it was a novel. There are a few translations around kh13 you can find through the search bar.

There is nothing wrong with the fan-made versions. Sadly once the official English versions are released no one is going to care about the fan-made versions......

True. Dedicated fans put so much work into their translations.

I think this is great!

But you know, I really hope that one day we'd get the Kingdom Hearts novels instead.

That's so great! Yen Press is a popular manga publishing company I think...but why is Days releasing this year before all the other ones? Not that I'd complain, really, I love Days. And for KH Final Mix--do they mean they'll start off with two volumes, or they'll release the entire thing in two longer-than-normal volumes?

since the series is 4 volumes long, they'll be releasing them in 2, 2 volume long Omnibuses, but like all other yenpress omnibuses, will contain all the colour pages

what do you mean by fan release anyway, do you mean scanlations?

AWESOME news, this is very exciting! I was so disappointed when Tokyopop shut down and the manga wasn't being picked up...can't wait to buy them!

Is it also for North America

The company is North American, so obviously

if they dont come to australia, ill have to convince my father to buy from overseas. and he doesnt like to do that. -_-

But i do hope eBook versions will be released.

Either Buy online (i recommend BookDepository(cheap(cheaper than most bookstores)and free shipping to almost every country(yes australia is free(i live in nz and shipping is free)))

or you can just special order it from a bookstore, just ask to order a book and give them the isbn.

Australia and NZ dont have manga publishers, and in truth, most books(meaning 90%(probably even more)) Australia and NZ gets are from either the states or from Europe.

(that was a lot of brackets)

I'm sure there will be people who will still read the fan translations. I mean, lots of people don't even buy regular manga that's available at the local bookstore, they read scanlations online. So there will still be readers of those.

And that is why the english manga industry is going down and why so many series dont get picked up and many series get put in an indefinite hiatus/cancelled.

It looks as though KH Final Mix and KH Com mangas will actually release in 2013. May for KH Final Mix and June for Chain of memories.

Misinformation, it means may 2014, otherwise it would have been in the last license announcement and would already be online with an ISBN and everything else.

Also, Yen Press has told me via email that the Days Manga will be releasing first(I try and get my facts straight(mainly because most sites said 2014 for the other KH series, but a few did say this year))

Might be, might not. A reliable KH site even trusts it so I wouldn't write it off yet.

But, hey... Pay atention:13:17:20 Conmplete KH: Final Mix released as two volumes in May 201313:17:27 re-releasing King Hearts13:17:31 starting with Final Mix13:17:51 ((((((Monthly omnibus release of KH:Chain of Memories and KH II leading up to art books and KH 358/2 releases this fall))))))Doen't the part between brackets mean they will release CoM, KH2, and just LATER they will release the art books, and JUST THEN they will release the Days manga? Added Tay Takashi's email response from The Yen Press Team to the news post.

It seems like they're reissuing what Tokyopop released and will then continue it.

about the chain of memories...isn't it already published in english or are they going to put them both in one?...that's what that means right?

Tokyopop did originally release it, but yes, in the Yen Press release, both volumes will be combined(but dont worry, Yen Press has some of the best omnibuses)

You guys really think they'll just reissui the Tokyopop releases of KH1 + KHCoM + KH2? I hope not.
Not to count that the Kingdom Hearts Final Mix manga has a chapter that does not exist in the Tokyopop's KH1. The "Unknown" chapter, where Sora meet Xemnas, and they fight - and then we see Roxas meeting Riku in TWTNW, and askin' he "Where is Sora?".

Some more news!

"Hi Tay,

We haven't decided the scheduling for volume 6 of Kingdom Hearts II, but we will be publishing it at some later point. The way licensing works, we generally can't contract for new volumes until they're out in Japan, so likely it will be next year.
Once we have a final schedule for this and all of the other volumes, it will go up on the Yen site.

Hope you'll check them out!

Best,
The Yen Press Team"
