Kingdom Hearts III trailer analysis: Do the chess pieces represent the lights/darknesses?

To continue on with our trailer analysis series, let's take a look at the chess pieces Young Xehanort and Young Eraqus are using in the

Each piece seems to have a symbol on the top, which we noticed could correspond to characters in the Kingdom Hearts series, more specifically, the seven lights and the thirteen darknesses. Thanks to Tumblr user freeshooterxig, some of these symbols have been depicted with their corresponding characters:

We also noticed that there are duplicates of the "Ansem, Seeker of Darkness" pieces - one to represent Ansem, and the other to possibly represent his Guardian. Also, we found two "Vanitas" pieces, possibly signifying Vanitas and the Vanitas Remnant.

KH13 user, PrinceNoctis, gives his analysis:

Another interesting thing to note is which pieces eliminate each other. It's hard for us to tell, but one move that is certain is the "Sora" piece eliminating one of the "Ansem, Seeker of Darkness"/"Guardian" pieces. If you can make out any other eliminations, let us know!

We would just like to clarify that this is based purely on speculation. However, it seems too perfect in our eyes. So, what do you think of all of this? Can you depict any symbols we missed? Sound off in the comments below!

I counted around 10 or 11 on each side...

It looks kinda generic but I'm totally reading it!

There may well be, because the chessboard is an irregular shape

Also, anyone figured out if the raised blocks mean anything?

So I assume that at the end the symbol Xehanort stands right in front Sora.

And the KH behind Sora that he must defend.

I think that heart represents riku

just want to point out that while this fits a chess motif it's clearly not following the rules of actual chess. There are too many unique pieces, especially on Xehanort's side

They look like 2 swords to me... In fact my first thought was Xemnas with his two 'lightsabers'

Luxord fighting on the dark side doesn't really make sense. First of all, Luxord doesn't exist anymore because his nobody was destroyed by Sora in KH2. The same goes for Larxene, Demyx and Marluxia. Their somebodies have most likely been recompleted like with the other former Org. members, and they are probably residing in Traverse Town, as stated by Ienzo during a certain cutscene in KH3D.

Also, why would Luxord or any of the others want to fight on Xehanort's side after learning what the organization was really about? He was planning to turn them all into 'xehanorts' after all, like he's doing with Braig and Isa.

Maybe they've already been norted

I highly doubt that. The "nortification" process had already started with Braig and Isa when they joined the Organization, hence their yellow eyes and pointy ears. None of the two had yellow eyes before this (as seen in BBS). None of the other members of the organization posessed these characteristics.

Yeah... Those have no handles.

But these sure do

Yes! I found these too but I couldn't remember where they were used so I left them out of my post. They look a lot more like the chess piece.
