Kingdom Hearts series breaks 21 million sales

At the Disney Interactive event at D23 Expo 2015, Kingdom Hearts had the spotlight where there were some exciting announcements made by Square Enix that can be found here.

Jimmy Pitaro, president of Disney Interactive, started off the presentation by stating that the franchise of Kingdom Hearts has sold over 21 million copies world-wide. This pushes Kingdom Hearts from 80th place to at least 70th place on the Wikia page for video game franchise sales.

The Kingdom Hearts series began with its release in 2002. Over the past 13 years it has grown into series that is

I've bought all the games but unfortunately only got the collector's edition for KH3D. I got the limited editions of 1.5 and 2.5, though~

I've been keeping up with the games since the very first one in 2002 and I'm so glad to see where it's gotten today, even if I didn't necessarily expect it! KH3 is going to be amazing.

Cool stuff! Deserves more though, to be honest. I know a lot of people who don't play it because they think it's a kids game. That's still really awesome though. :)I've been a fan of the series since 2006, when the second game came out/was coming out, ironically though KH1 was the first one I played :P

In the world of AAA gaming where sales exceed just that on the first day, I wonder if KH3 will surpass that. With all the hype seemingly making it more popular than ever on the internet, I wonder...

Many people did not get the side games and have been waiting for a 3. I imagine this will outsell any of the others. Although, many people will be lost if they thought the side games didn't matter. Haha

Yeah my friends think it is dumb because it is Disney and "for kids" but will not even try it out.

I started with the original in 2002 and have purchased the rest except for Re:Coded and Re:CoM, but I got 1.5 and 2.5 so I tehnically still bought them (even if one is just cutscenes). I got the Heartless plush tokeep on my collector item shelf.

To be honest it achieved this months ago and half of those copies are from the PS2 games alone. Lol.

Man, 21 million sales, eh? The KH series has come a long way! I've been a fan of the series since 2006, and I've played all the games in the franchise! I've loved every single installment of KH I've played, and I know that my support for the series will only continue to grow with the passing of time! I never dreamed the series would grow the way it has, but I'm certainly glad it's grown so much! Long live Kingdom Hearts! :D

I started playing Kingdom Hearts in 2009.  After watching all of the cutscenes for Kingdom Hearts online I wanted to buy the game.  At that time Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 were going for $5-10 at Gamestop, so I bought both on my birthday.  After playing both games about three times each I thought to myself: "I must be missing something here because I have no idea how Sora got into that pod."  It wasn't until I went online and found out that both Chain of Memories and 358/2 Days came between 1 and 2 that I really began to appreciate the depth of storytelling that Kingdom Hearts series offered.  Kingdom Hearts then became my favorite series.  I have been a huge geek for the series ever since, reading anything I can get my hands on about the lore.  KH 1.5 and 2.5 Remix have been a dream come true for me.  To actually be able to earn trophies for accomplishing feats in my favorite games has been a blast.  Every time I try to explain the Kingdom Hearts 1 storyline to anyone they always give me a weird look.  I am a details guy so I would say things like:  "Then Sora decides to stab himself with the Key to Return Hearts and.. This particular aspect of the game is very important, but it won't make sense until the third game in the series KH2."  Has anyone else here had a similar experience trying to explain the plot to someone?
