"Islam" in religious context is better translated as "submission [to God]", which is a common theme in most religions, and the Abrahamic ones in particular...while media sensationalism certainly plays a significant part in it, it's not difficult to see why Islam (on its own) in particular has been singled out by the West in recent times, especially since the majority of notable terrorist attacks and acts during the current period have been claimed to be done in the name of that particular religion (regardless of personal interpretations of it, or intended and actual victims of said acts). (Disclaimer: I'm an atheist...I find religion in general to be baffling and not at all something I'd be inclined towards.)

Because he hates plot/setting/etc. for some bizarre reason. Same reason why he introduced Bowser Jr. and retconned the Koopalings from being Bowser's children to not (which was extremely stupid, considering the familial connection was one of the big reasons why the latter were liked in the first place). Probably a bunch of other examples I can't think of right now.

Again with the "people make something sound more complicated than it actually is" thing that's all too common in this fandom.

And it's an insult to visual artists to completely dismiss the role good graphics/aesthetics and art direction can have in a game (again, it's a visual medium). I absolutely do expect you to put substantial effort into making your product look distinct within the limitations of whatever style/system/engine etc. you're using, and if you aren't you'd better have a damn good reason for it. Graphics may or may not be the end-all (depending on the game), but it certainly has more effect than people like to give it [lack of] credit for.

I'd certainly prefer to look at something aesthetically pleasing than something that looks "chunky" or dull. Art direction (and that includes graphics) absolutely are important to a game, as they are to any form of visual media.

The entire series is one giant acid trip, did you expect anything else?
