I picture the same thing pretty much A lot of people don't realize men are pushed to unrealistic body standards too, granted there isn't necessarily a whole culture devoted to making them feel horrible about their bodies like with women, but it still is unacceptable. -

Never said they couldn't happen at the same time, but the statement "she may have OCD, which is also a form of Schizophrenia, actually." is most definitely incorrect.Yes, that is the definition of OCD basically that you just put in your last message. Obsessions are thoughts, compulsions are behaviors. Obsessions drive the compulsions.They don't necessarily go hand in hand as there are varying types of schizophrenia, but that doesn't mean they can't occur together like in your and many other people's cases. I wouldn't say anxiety causes the delusions. Those are caused by a chemical imbalance and abnormal neural connections and associations in the brain. Anxiety amplifies them for sure though. I am, however not discrediting your own personal experience with what you have.Oh no don't worry, that last part wasn't only for you

Therapy will help. Probably behavioral therapy, although a therapist with eclectic views might work best. Since she's religious, a treatment utilizing the placebo effect should work great for her. Obsessive compulsive disorder: persistent, unwanted thoughts cause someone to feel anxious, so they engage in particular behavior to ease the anxiety. Schizophrenia: a very general summary About 1/100 people are diagnosed with schizophrenia. The main symptoms are disorganized thinking, disturbed perception, and inappropriate emotions and actions. The Positive symptoms are delusions (of persecution or grandeur), hallucinations, and inappropriate effect. Negative symptoms are the flat effect and catatonia. Something can be considered a disorder if it is unjustifiable, maladaptive, atypical, and disturbing. Just because a person shows signs of a certain disorder does not mean they have said disorder. And yes, it does sound like she has OCD, but that does not necessarily mean she has it. Do not let people on this site diagnose your mother and do not diagnose her yourself.
