Tetsuya Nomura's movie inspirations.

'This is when he revealed to us that he was so moved by Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway’s lyrical take on Victor Hugo's novel, that he charged into the Square offices the next morning intent on transforming FFXV into a musical of Les Miserables’s caliber.'

Instead, he consumes movies like a junky – 2 or 3 of them on most nights. His biggest cinematic inspiration is Baz Lurhman, the visionary Australian director behind Romeo + Juliet, Moulin Rouge, and most recently The Great Gatsby.

It turns out that Nomura is actually a huge lover of movies and musicals. It's quite strange how we hardly see this influence in Kingdom Hearts besides Atlantica

I find all the more ironic that "Kingdom Hearts", a Disney property has little to no romantic events occurring. Like, the majority of Disney films are about romantic love and yet that wasn't even touched on by the original Kingdom Hearts characters outside of Sora and Kairi's potential relationship...

I mean, if Final Fantasy VIII and Final Fantasy X can create a believable love story then why cant Kingdom Hearts?

I actually wouldn't complain about a KH game that was also a musical. Put Roxas to be the main character on it, and have him interact mostly with, like, Xion and Naminé. This way we don't have to deal with Donald singing, and a lot of Disney movies are musicals. All in all, it would WORK. As long as they got someone who actually writes musicals to do the songs, of course.

Really, Kingdom Hearts needs to accept that it's a Disney property and have all the music that can be expected from Disney properties.

As far as love stories go, I wouldn't be against it, but they need to have the characters actually INTERACT with each other.

Wow, I never knew he was such a movie and musical watcher. Huh, it probably explains his ideas for worlds and more.

I wouldnt be opposed to a good musical world or at least a part of one, if they do it right and not corny like KH2 lol

after further consideration, i retract my statement lol  i have 0 problem with having no more musical parts in KH games, call me a scrooge

That could explain why Square Enix had professional singers voice Kairi and Namine.

I thought it was stated in the past that the Kingdom Hearts series focuses more on friendship and connections. I have seen some romantic elements in the series though, but the strongest one present is Sora and Kairi at the moment. Plus, the Kingdom Hearts series focuses more on a younger audience at times; while Final Fantasy is a bit more mature in a sense. However, I do feel that the Kingdom Hearts series is becoming a bit more serious and that the story needs to come closer to a conclusion or climax before any romantic elements progress deeper.

I would love to see a musical take on FFXV! The feels then...  <3

i'm down for musicals so long as they have good songs.

nothing quite like slogging through a series of bad songs.

Hmm, well, it's apparent that he's a lover of movies! I mean, Kingdom Hearts has a lot of influence from Star Wars, and Nomura himself said he loved those films, so that's one channel of inspiration he got, ya know?  I think it's pretty cool that he's passionate about movies and musicals!

I'd love for the Kingdom Hearts series to delve upon romance for the main characters at some point, so maybe he can get inspiration from the romantic works he's immersed himself in! :D

And so, KH3 will now be a musical sung by Donald and Goofy!
