You make it sound like Marly was a greatly written character in CoM. He was a power hungry guy who made a coup against the organization and lost against Sora earlier than the others.

Also, in terms of KH characters, he's one with better screen presence. Characterisation is not really great in this series, so fans prefer characters that feel larger than life.

Characters like Marluxia dont really need much more to them. In com he did not require much to him.
