Yeah, you don't want to electrocute yourself,

Make sure the wire is grounded
And you could strip away some of the casing so you have more wire to tie both end together, make sure you do it right and then you'd have to put a new set of casing (heat sink) or properly tape it but that's a risk of electric shock

Better to have someone else do it or find if they have wire connectors at your local hardware store
