That is a bit strange. Well Dragon Ball had some little plot holes. Nothing can be perfect, correct ?
They could have just made him a Trunks from another future because if there is a time machine then there is a possibility of multiple timelines, right ?
Nobody would have questioned anything if they would have made him a character from a different timeline and that was the reason why he looked different from the other one. But whatever who am I to judge someone else's fictional work.
