he basically was susposed to be captain marvel before billy but he misused his powers for evil so he was cursed and locked away. and when billy became captain marvel black adams somehow escape and wanted to kill him (this was before he became anti hero/hero again) and the two were meant to fight for eons till superman got roped into it in a way.
