We're in the part of the story after the Keyblade War, so any of this alluding to it would be flashback sequences that were mentioned but not shown in the mobile version, just the browser version.

Meanwhile, the story is still in Niceland, so it's probably promoting what's to come further down the line since D23 was a great opportunity for that and the news drought rather than it happening soon.
