I think you might be missing the definition of winning...

see though, this isn't a lottery. or at least, not advertised as such. they have judges (supposedly) looking at all the entries and picking out the winners

Then they're still winners, regardless of how it was advertised.

There were most likely some review process behind it though. But there are limits to how indepth you can review something like that.

it's not like people put hours of work into this contest

it's a very subjective thing

so like... even if it was just out of a hat (which I doubt) it's really not a big deal

at least someone gets to win

i should be clear: i'm not upset that i didn't win. i never expected to win. what i'm upset with is the winners that were chosen and how they barely match the theme (well, most of them)

Why do people fight with no medals in PVP mode ?

Those are probably players that haven't set up their medals yet.

Also, that "contest" felt more like a random draw giveaway, not that I had a submission.

It just seemed like a joke when others had decent submissions in the comments.
