Why? 

Surely this topic has already been discussed but I had my own thoughts to share.

I know it's frustrating not having the same feeling of closure we got for Sora in KH2, considering that was the middle of the saga and this is the end of it.... BUT...  We got that for everyone else. Which was what we really needed, considering the other characters have gone through more pain and turmoil than Sora has.  Sure the weight of the world(s) always falls on him, but he's pulled through every time and kicked whoever's ass got in his way, against all odds, and saved the world(s) time and time again.  I don't consider him being put into stasis after CoM a big deal because he woke up like nothing even happened with a big shit eating grin ready for his next adventure, and he was put to sleep by the Organization in DDD for all of 20 minutes so that doesn't count either

 

I personally loved the ending (albeit may have been a bit too quick, not leaving any time for the emotional impact of what happened).  We knew Sora's journey wasn't going to be over with this game.  I think Sora has been too lucky... had too much protagonist plot armor throughout the series, and it's been a long time coming that he would end up in a situation where he really has to pull all his strength from within himself instead of his friends to overcome the odds.

Plus, who doesn't love a good cliffhanger to allow us to speculate and theorize.  Keeps us occupied while waiting for the next installment.

The ending itself wasn't bad honestly people just have a problem with sora " dying" because 1 it was poorly explained and 2 it's pretty much pointless since we know he's coming back so it only served as needless shock value 3 for me personally the fact that Kairi had to die for it too happen was also a problem but that's a whole nother issue point is sora disappeaing just wasn't necessary and considering from what the secret ending shows us well play as him in the next game and he might also be saved which further adds to the why kill him if he's just gonna come back the next game?

It could be that someone might take Sora's place and the whole of saving that person again will start all over.  He is the key after all.

now to be fair sora's "death" could have a much larger point that we are not aware of, perhaps where he's ended up afterwards will allow him to uncover something important for the next saga

Well hopefully it at least sets up the other characters to actually do something in the next title. Sora was waaaay to prominent in this game, and sure he is the main character, but he really took the wind out of all the other characters' sails this time around.

Good point for all we know because sora is in a different realm alltogether there is no one to defend the many worlds of his home

True that aside from the final battle what the others actually do that could not have been done by sora himself?

Sure Sora can do everything himself, but we now have a larger group of characters that have all been playable and he practically uses none of them in 3. Riku and Mickey should've been more than enough to bring back Aqua, why make them fail just to have Sora come in and do it? And they went to the trouble of gaining the 7 guardians, yet only Sora is needed to defeat him despite Xehanort alone was being to completely ravage the BBS crew. The whole story just felt poorly thought out in 3. 

I honestly loved the ending! Though I didn't expect Sora to basically get Thanos'd! XD

But in all seriousness, Sora literally gave his all so that all those who suffered in the past could be able to be brought back and have their happy ending. He accomplished that, and is literally the key that linked to all. So the fact that he was the unifying point for everyone definitely wedged a tear in my eye! And well, the ending was just so sentimental, that seeing everyone on the beach was just so fulfilling! The whole ending with Hikari playing was the ultimate goosebump inducing ride! 

I'm just excited to see what the future holds for this amazing franchise!

Well, I am not mad, or even upset, about this game's ending. If anything, I am getting hung up on the many details of the lore that have made the ending difficult for me to understand. For instance, I still cannot fathom how Sora was able to "time travel" with the Power of Waking, after his initial defeat in the Keyblade Graveyard. From what we know about the Power of Waking, it is a means of restoring one's heart to one's body, or awakening a "sleeping heart" that has been consumed by darkness.

There is also the bit about using this power responsibly or irresponsibly, when it comes to traversing hearts to reach worlds, or the opposite. Is this how Sora was able to travel to special locations, namely the Realm of Darkness? I know he had the Master Defender keyblade, which Aqua had been using previously. Perhaps it was only because of that keyblade's connection to Aqua's heart that allowed Sora to reach her exact location.

There are other instances that have certainly caused confusion for me, too. We can only hope (and speculate) that Re:Mind will answer more of the pressing questions that pop up, towards the very end of the game.

From what I understand, and I'm paraphrasing Nomura here, the only way for Sora to recover his friend's hearts was to rewrite history, since they had essentially perished indefinitely.  They simply had no bodies to return to in the present.  We know that hearts can travel back in time and we can assume that Sora unknowingly brought his friends back that way.  Now my question is whether or not this created an alternate timeline (or worldline as it's called in the secret reports) or not.

I agree, it's all still very messy, but when hasn't this series lore been all over the place.  I felt the same confusion way back in 2006 when I first beat KH2 and thought "so keyblades must be like weapons in GTA, because Riku just pulled 2 of them out of his ass".  The logic behind many plot points in the series since CoM is still vague to this day.
