True, although I use tier 3 spells anyway if I see a bunch of enemies bunched up.

yeah, but then there's the issue of when you're with Aerith only and it's just the two of you. Balancing 4 spells between 2 party members feels like a chore

I... strongly disagree. that's 4 slots out of like 15-20

There's plenty of room for other things.

Tbh though I'm pretty much the opposite of you in that I barely use the passive stat boosting materia and mostly have spells and options.

I just don't like having to equip spells

I don't find the stat boosts needed and I like being more versatile.

So I mostly just have elemental spells, healing, raise, barrier, haste, Steal, Assess, Chakra, etc.

Dispel.

And have been doing pretty well.

Although tbh I should probably look into actually utilizing the stat boosting materia once I hit hard mode.

The offensive ones anyway.
