They are starting their own studio, so I don't think it's completely scrapped, they just want to put this one out first before moving on to doing other projects for their studio debut

i hope it's not completely scrapped. for as much as i like the gaang, there's only so much you can do with them, and i hope to see how the world expands using other characters

Well in an interview with the Avatar TLAB, the animator and producer said he took inspirations for his work on it from other anime mostly Neon Genesis Evangelion. For pre adult Toph's new look I wouldn't be surprised if he took some inspiration from modern anime like AoT
