Sephiroth in KH1 and KH2 is a more iconic character for me than in his own game just because of how well known his boss fights are in the jrpg sphere + personal nostalgia. He barely does anything in FF7. guy is just vibing in the northern crater and sending jenova clones

That's underplaying what he does quite a bit

The way he manipulates Cloud is a big part of the story

Not to mention he has one of the most famous scenes in gaming history

I personally like him the most when I know it's really him. The clones are technically avatars of his own will but it just doesn't feel the same as encountering him in person

but that's also what makes him interesting at the same time imo

I noticed this a lot in remake

One thing I love about remake is that he has a more direct part in the story. I understand that some people are disappointed because it ruins the original "creepiness" of his character but I got the impression that the clones were way more scarier because compared to him they were silent and didn't talk that much

especially in shinra hq where he just kills the president and then leaves

without saying anything

Sephiroth is also iconic as the “definitive JRPG villain“. There’s good reason why he’s in Smash.

him and kefka basically invented the "final jrpg boss has angel wings" trope

correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think jrpgs that came before 6 and 7 had this trope

I can't remember a final boss with angel wings in the old dragon quest games for example

DQ deserves a lot more respect than it gets but valid point

what makes him an interesting character in FF7 for me is not necessarily his actions and personality but how the characters are reacting to his actions (I hope you get what I mean).

More so his influence on the overarching world
