I saw this under the KH wiki's "Did you know?" section and found it very odd.

Just think about how it would have been if KH1 actually went like that.

Who would have to save Sora? Riku? And what would happen to Kairi?

That would have changed the whole game around completely.

it doesn't mention Riku, so my guess is that in this case Riku would still fall into darkness, and they would have allowed Kairi to have a strong enough heart to be a keyblade wielder, and we could possibly have played as her as both a princess of heart and a keyblade wielder. unless making her a keyblade wielder would have given SE reason to take away her status as a princess of heart, and give it to another Disney princess. this would have changed the game completely, though, as you said, who knows what it would be like if they followed through with the beta trailer into the completed game itself.

I wouldn't quite say that sora was meant to be rescued the same way as kairi. It was probably just like something like Sora loses his heart at hollow bastion, and then they said "we have to save sora"

I actually heard something else too, something very weird. The people who originally came up with the idea of a Final Fantasy/Disney game thought it would be cool if the main character would be swinging around a chainsaw. Obviously, Disney didn't think that was a good idea and it wouldn't have such an awesome storyline if they would've executed that idea.
