I've been thinking recently that SE intentionally put some connections between Xaldin and Gilgamesh, from Final Fantasy V. I've noticed both of them carry multiple weapons at the same time, and you fight him in an area of Beast's Castle that resembles a bridge, in a way, similar to Gilgamesh's battle track being "Clash on the Big Bridge".

Any thoughts?

Those are some pretty strained ties...

I mean, if Xaldin was a dimension hopping ham, or something, you'd have a case but...

It's probably just coincidence.

Isn't Axel inspired by a FF character? If that's the case then Xaldin very well could have ties to Gilgamesh.

Axel was inspired by Reno from FFVII. As for Xaldin and Gil...

Differences

-Xaldin fights alone. Gilgamesh has Enkidu (most of the time).

-Xaldin uses the Lindwyrm, a series of six lances. Gilgamesh mostly uses swords in the main series, including Excalibur, Masamune, Zantetsuken and Excalipoor.

-Xaldin utilizes wind magic. Gilgamesh, if using magic at all, uses status magic, including Haste and Sleep.

-Xaldin is a member of Organization XIII. Gilgamesh was a servant of Exdeath and fights alongside Enkidu. However, he is not a member of a proper organization.

-Xaldin has hair/awesome dreads. Gilgamesh may, but he is usually depicted with some form of headwear.

-Xaldin appears in two games, Kingdom Hearts II and 358/2 Days. Gilgamesh appears in eighteen games, FF Dawn of Souls, FFIV After Years, FFV, FFVI, FFVIII, FFIX, FFXI, FFXII and Revenant Wings, FFXIII, FFXIII-2, FF Type-0, Dissidia, Dissidia 012, Theatrythm, Chocobo to Mahou no Ehon: Majo to Shoujo to Go-nin no Yuusha, Itadaki Street Special, and Blood of Bahamut.

Similarities

-Both can use the Jump ability.

-Both are fought on a bridge: Xaldin at Beast's Castle and Gilgamesh on the Big Bridge.

-Both use lances: Xaldin uses Lindwyrm, while Gilgamesh has the ability to use them (but rarely does).

-Both wear a form of loose clothing... god, that's a stretch. Xaldin wears a long black coat. Gilgamesh, in FFVIII, sports a long red scarf/cape.

Based on what I could think of... yeah, not close enough for me.

NOTE: I only counted XALDIN'S apprearances, not DILAN'S.

Whoa, that answered my questions...

I didn't know.

Some differences but you have a point

I hope Gilgamesh will someday appear in KH as a secret boss.

I wonder if he'd be the same as in FF, though, since it's a different multiverse, even if he usually travels through the Void.

I think that most of the characters in kingdom hearts can be said to resemble characters from final fantasy (for instance zexion sort of looks like kadaj and lexeaus sort of looks like loz though in all honesty looks are the only thing that both pairings share) as kingdom hearts is more or less a runner, look up how strawberries reproduce, of the final fantasy series. Also square enix isn't always the most original company on the block.
