Square Enix Reveals Conditions for Final Fantasy VII Remake

Posted

According to Andrisang, CEO Yoichi Wada explained during the company's annual shareholder meeting that it would not remake the legendary RPG until it makes a brand new Final Fantasy game that "exceeds the quality" of Final Fantasy VII.

If the team were to remake Final Fantasy VII now, then the Final Fantasy franchise "would be done with".

In a candid statement, Wada clarified that he feels the current slew of titles in the franchise have not surpassed their popular predecessor in terms of quality. He stressed that while they hopefully would manage this in future, if the team were to remake Final Fantasy VII before this was achieved, then the Final Fantasy franchise "would be done with".

This revelation comes hot on the heels of statements by Tetsuya Nomura, who recently admitted that a remake wasn't a priority. He also suggested that the current batch of titles would need to be improved before the company cast its gaze backwards, saying "The new Final Fantasy must overcome the Final Fantasy of the past.”

It looks like for now we're just going to have to hope that rumours about an updated Steam version of the game being released are true, and that Final Fantasy XV is the game we've all been waiting for from Square Enix. If you've forgotten why this talk of a remake started, check out the tech demo for the PS3 below, which shows Cloud, Aerith and the bustling streets of Midgar in High Definition.

My thoughts: Hahahahahha. What they're basically saying: "We won't remake VII until we create another game that's even MORE popular/ground-breaking!" *looks at X-2, XII, XIII, and XIII-2* Yeah, I don't think that's happening any time soon.

It looks awesome! I wish they would do a remake because I never got a chance to play the original. :(

wowness..go Nomura go!

I knew about this already(for obvious reasons).

LOL we'll never get a FF7 remake, there's just no way it can be surpassed xD

we will have to wait a long time till we see a better game than FF7,so far i like most of the square enix final fantasy games but i dont think that any of the latest games has the impact ff7 had on the gaming world, well also FF10 :)

VII wasn't the end-all-and-be-all of the Final Fantasy series, and it's actually not even in my top three.

Yes, I would be interested in a remake for FFVII. It's the reasoning behind why they aren't doing it that makes me mad.

It's called Final Fantasy IX.

It's called Final Fantasy IX.

This. FFIX was amazing.

tutti frutti. Though I am not holding my breath in regards to the FF7 ramake, but assuming that FF7 is the best FF in the series, and I haven't played the game myself and have heard backs and forths about the game, I would think that if FF7 IS in fact the best FF of the series, that it would be all the more reason to remake it. They would be making money if they did anyway. But what can you do with Square.

It's called Final Fantasy IX.

While IX is a great game, it's definitely more popular now than it was when it first released.

When it first released many people disliked it as they found the character designs too "childish" when compared to VII and VIII.

IX is just a game that seems to get better with time, especially when newer FF games can't seem to deliver.

hmm that is interresting but it dont bother me almost all of the ff games are downloadable on psn so im able to play them that all that matters
