After releasing a press report confirming the cancellation of Final Fantasy Versus XIII after nearly seven years of development, the future of beloved software developer, Square Enix, was brought into question. President and CEO of the company, Yoichi Wada, has recently chimed in, saying Square Enix is "Down but not out"

 

"[square Enix] has been no stranger to difficult times," Wada admits, "Last year, we reported significant losses, and similar financial constraints were the cause of the original merge [of Squaresoft and Enix]."

 

So how does Square Enix plan to weather the storm? Apparently it involves a lot of cuts.

 

"We feel we need to focus more on bigger releases, such as Final Fantasy XIII, and Dragon Quest X, while letting less profitable franchises slide somewhat."

 

Square Enix has confirmed that while their current release schedule will remain largely unchanged, many projects in the works 'under the hood' have been cancelled outright, including, hints series director Tetsuya Nomura, the long awaited finale to a series very close to his heart.

 

"[square Enix] has been hit very hard." Nomura says, "I'm very lucky to even keep my job [laughs]. Unfortunately, I have many friends within the company who aren't so lucky, I hope that things work out well for them despite this. It's strange, and quite sad to see so many projects cancelled so quickly. As for my own projects, well... I think I might have had too much riding on Final Fantasy Versus XIII! My team and I have been reallocated to a new Final Fantasy project, in hopes that we can carry some of [Versus] over to it, so you might say the project isn't quite dead yet [smiles]. Unfortunately, all projects related to the Kingdom Hearts franchise have been cancelled. A game had already been in the works for some time, but unfortunately will be the final game in the franchise. Changes are being made to the overall plot to offer a conclusion to that will satisfy longtime fans of the series, and you can look forward to hearing about it soon!"

 

So in other words, we'll be saying goodbye to Sora, Donald, and Goofy next game. Hopefully Square Enix's new plan will dig them out of the hole, and who knows? Maybe this is exactly what Square needs to start making games like they used to.

If Kingdom Hearts is a 'nonprofitable' franchise, I'd LOVE to see a profitable one...

This is really sad though, never thought we'd see Kingdom Hearts end this way...

EDIT: MoM edition is sold out right now which means it has big sales, and maybe the normal edition will sell thousands to(fans that didn't get to have MoM will just get the normal edition) Because of this predicted successful sales for KH3D there might be a chance for SE to gain a lot of funds =w=

I just hope that they don't abandon Versus 13 because it'll cause a great loss of money for the company .__.
